The Holidays are officially upon us! It's "the most wonderful time of the year!" It is a time for being with family and friends, for enjoying some days off of work, and for reflecting on the blessings that God has given to us, most specifically in the sending of His Son. But it is also, usually, one of the busiest times of the year. Cooking extravagant meals, picking up around the house and doing a couple deep cleanings, buying presents, attending parties, etc., etc., etc.! It can just be exhausting!
With that in mind, we wanted to plan our "Holiday Services," both our Thanksgiving Eve service
next Wednesday night and our Christmas Eve service on Sunday morning to be times of refreshment for your soul. Amidst the busyness of the season, we want these two dates to stand out as a little oasis from the crazy, a little calm in the midst of the storm, as we gather together and focus our hearts on Christ, pressing into Him to calm every anxious thought.
Specifically this coming Wednesday, we will be gathering to give thanks, through singing, through reading Scripture, through praying, and through communion. It will be a great time of joyful thanksgiving for all that God has done, all that He promises to do, and all that He is for us in the Person and work of Christ! My prayer for the service, as we've been planning it and organizing all that will be happening, is that every single soul who attends would have a cascade of peace, comfort, and joy, pour over their souls with each song, with each prayer, and with each focused moment on the Scriptures. I pray that every word that is spoken would edify, fit the need of the moment, and give grace to all who hear. And I pray that we would all be strengthened and encouraged because of our time together to jump back into the holiday season with renewed joy and vigor, ready to be a blessing to all we come into contact with, sharing the joy of our Savior!
So, invite a friend who may be struggling this season, bring a family member who has been lonely and weary with trials, and come ready to be encouraged in and by the Gospel as we give thanks to and for our amazing Savior!
