Greetings
RIP LINDSEY DURLACHER
World Championships Bronze Medalist
2007 World Champion Team Member
United States National Champion
NCAA 2X All-American & Runner Up
With great regret and humbling sorrow I inform you that my brother on the mat, Lindsey Durlacher, 35, passed away in his sleep at home in Denver on Friday night/Saturday morning (June 3 / 4, 2011) after complications from surgery on Wednesday to repair a broken sternum caused in a snow mobile accident earlier this year. My young daughter Coletta and I had the opportunity to visit with him in Denver on Tuesday the day before his operation. His mother was in Colorado from Chicago to care for him in his post surgery recovery process. God bless you Lindsey and your family. You are in our prayers. We are better because you were in our life.
My dearest memory of Lindsey was not as my fierce competitor but how dear he was always with my daughter. Our last conversation was familiar, warm and revisiting. He discussed with me the medical procedure he was about to have done and seemed confident that he would come through the operation and recover just fine. I got the chance to speak with him about CBD TUFF CAMP being held at a Buena Vista Colorado hot springs retreat and he expressed his love of them and his own use of the natural healing geo-thermal waters to help his healing process from the scarring damage that Olympic Level competition has on a human body. We left with a hug and his commitment to join us at camp in three weeks to soak in the natural hot waters as part of his post-surgery recovery process. His mother lovingly told him he could only do it if his doctor cleared him to do so.
Upon this tragic news our group has decided, with council from members of the Olympic wrestling community, to dedicate the 2011 CBD TUFF CAMP, June 23-26, 2011 to the memory of the late Lindsey Durlacher, 35 years old, World Championships Bronze Medalist, Member of the United States' first Greco-Roman World Champion Team, United States National Champion, NCAA All-American and Runner Up.
A special one time memorial photo exhibit (By Larry Slater & Danielle Hobeika) of the champion in some of his greatest moments will be on display in the CBD TUFF CAMP workshop room. High quality framed photo poster prints will be sold at the event to raise money for the Durlacher family. A silent auction is also planned to take place as well. Please join us in this moment of reflection and prayer in memory of Lindsey Durlacher on any or all days during CHAMPION by design TUFF CAMP from June 23-26, in one of the places he loved most, the Colorado rocky mountain hot springs. Spend time for yourself in the healing waters and connect with our high altitude high performance training camp group. Contact us through email or telephone for further details. (Location: Cottonwood Hot Springs, Buena Vista, Colorado.) Life is unpredictable. You don't know if your next match is your last match or if this is your last day. That's why you must live every day as if it is your last - but in a way that aligns you to a brighter tomorrow if you are lucky enough to still have breath at sunrise. We have lost a wonderful and amazing member of our close community. One respected by all, loved by many and who made our community better with his participation. Lindsey was a true competitor and lover of the sport. May he rest in peace. Click here to watch Lindsey at his best. Information will be communicated as it becomes available.
