$1 Donation: Jeans For Charity Day!

CCA is partnering with Expect Hope to provide educational opportunities for children living in extreme poverty. We are kicking off a monthly campaign for students to help raise funds for underprivileged children's education in exchange for the privilege of wearing jeans to school.

DECEMBER'S JEANS FOR CHARITY DAY:
Bring in a $1 minimum donation on Thursday*, December 20th to donate to Expect Hope. Your donation allows your student(s) to wear jeans with a CCA uniform top.

We are thrilled to continue this campaign throughout the remainder of the school year. We look forward to seeing how the dollars add up and allow the CCA family to make a sizable difference in the educational opportunities of these children.

Thank you in advance for considering a charitable contribution!

*7/8 will have the opportunity to instead participate on Wednesday.

GIRLS ON THE RUN!

The fun and exciting program Girls on the Run is coming to CCA this spring! The program is geared to girls in grades 3-5. Please go to www.girlsontherunrockies.org for additional information. The Spring Season program runs March thru May and girls will meet twice a week after school. The girls will participate in a 5K run at the end of the Spring Season.

ATTENTION — we need at least two parent coaches to be able to have this program. If you are a parent interested in coaching (Girls on the Run will provide training) or if your child is interested in participating in Girls on the Run this spring, please email Dave Loomis at dloomis@cherrycreekacademy.org
Personnel Updates

We are pleased to announce that Nicole Nistal has been formally promoted to CCA Assistant Business Manager beginning January 8th, 2018. Since August of this year, Nicole has begun to take on many of the responsibilities of this position, and will move to full-time status in January. We also wish to recognize Nicole for her 10 years of outstanding service as a CCA reading aide. Nicole has made such a positive impact over that time with so many CCA students. She will be greatly missed in the elementary school classrooms. Please join us in wishing Nicole well in her new position!

We are also pleased to announce that Eric Reinke will be expanding his responsibilities from recess aide to include a reading aide roll. While this is Eric's first year at CCA, he has quickly established himself as a strong contributor within the CCA family. We are thrilled to be able to promote Eric from within. Please join us in congratulating Eric on his additional CCA responsibilities, which will begin on January 8th.
CCA's New Digital Monument Sign

We are excited to share the information about our proposed new digital monument sign. Click here to read the Neighborhood letter that has been sent to our neighbors. Click here to see the site location and specifications. The sign is double sided, full color and will be illuminated during normal school operational hours (6:30 am to 6:00 pm) except when we host an evening event. The sign is slated to be installed towards the end of the project and will be located near the flag pole off of Caley.

We are thrilled to be able to install this sign as another way to communicate with our CCA community!

Double Teacher Feature
Kelley Goodwin - Kindergarten

Kelley Goodwin is happy to have joined the CCA family 3 years ago. She moved to Colorado in 2005, from California, with her husband, Michael and daughters, Devon and Emma. They added a third daughter, Macy, in 2006.
Kelley was very happy raising her three daughters, but missed teaching. She decided to come back into Education in 2013, where she was a substitute teacher for Cherry Creek School District. When the opportunity came for Kelley to become a Kindergarten teacher at CCA, she felt it was the right move.
Kelley enjoys spending time with her family and friends, where they hike, attend sporting events, and enjoy all that Colorado has to offer.
Chaz Gunning - 5/6 Science

Chaz Gunning grew up in the Capitol Hill neighborhood of Denver, and never saw a reason to leave this incredible state. Always fascinated by Science and the outdoors, he studied Physical Geography and Environmental Science at CU Boulder. He was lucky enough to work for the CU Biogeography Lab and spent his summers getting paid to camp and hike while studying forest fires and beetle outbreaks. After college he spent several years working as an Environmental Scientist for an environmental consulting firm, operating groundwater treatment systems at Rocky Flats, a former nuclear weapons plant. He continues this work each summer, which keeps him busy and outside. After realizing that he would really rather teach kids about all the cool science out there, he received his teaching license and Master’s in Science Education from UCD. This is his sixth year at CCA and he’s loved every minute of it. Outside of school he loves to hike, fish, read, and relax in his backyard with his wife and two dogs.
A CCA FAMILY NEEDS OUR HELP
giving-hands-together.jpg
Dear CCA Family,
One of our families has been hit with some difficult news. The Bakhrakh family, with son, Lev, who is in 5th grade and daughter, Zoe, in 3rd grade just discovered that their father Peter has been diagnosed with a brain tumor. It is operable and surgery will be performed. We can imagine the difficult times ahead, as they travel the road to recovery. A Go Fund Me page has been set up to raise money to help Peter and his family. If you would like to donate please click on the following link: https://www.gofundme.com/financial-help-for-petr-bakhrakh . Every donation helps no matter the size. Thank you and please join us in keeping Peter and is family in your thoughts in wishing him a speedy recovery.

COLORADO MATH LEAGUE
Math Competition

We recently received some information about an additional math competition held in the Springs, known as Colorado Math League. This is a school competition, much like the Math Olympiad and can be conducted during school hours.  This competition is open to 4th-8th grade only.
For more information, please log onto  www.mathleague.com .

We have received interest from our Math club students, but still have more slots available. We will register students on a first come, first serve basis. Please let us know if you are interested as soon as possible as the registration deadline is quickly approaching.

CCA administration has graciously agreed to cover the costs for registration. Please note that we will not be offering additional coaching for this competition as we have two other competitions that our Mathletes are already preparing for. We will provide worksheets as means of independent practice if you are interested.

If you would like your student to participate, please send an email with your student’s name and grade by the 21st of December to Mrs. Priya Nair at  pnair@cherrycreekacademy.org .

TR AFFIC/SAFETY:
JHL has planned ahead to minimize the impact to normal school operations, including traffic. Morning drop off and afternoon pick up will not change. JHL has scheduled all deliveries and truck/equipment traffic outside of our drop off and pick up times.

JHL created a safety video for our website, highlighting the efforts JHL takes to separate students from the construction as well as their thorough background checks for their employees, and other important efforts being taken to ensure a safe construction site.

JHL, DCS, RTA architects, and CCA leadership meet and discuss new construction tasks that involve safety matters at weekly Owner, Architect, Constructor meetings to ensure the safest site possible.

TOURS:
We are working with JHL Constructors and DCS, CCA's Owner's Rep, to schedule monthly tours for anyone interested in walking the project to hear and see first hand the progress being made. These tours will be held immediately following our regularly scheduled monthly PTO meetings. A PTO tour was held on Friday, 9/15. The next tour date will be 12/15 immediately following the PTO meeting. Remember to wear close-toed shoes to participate!
