NEW STAFF
Aubrey Warner
Front Desk Liaison
I am delighted to be changing roles within the CCA community to the Front Desk. Although I loved spending before school, after school, recess, and lunch with your students last year, I am looking forward to this new opportunity and can't wait to get to know all of the families behind these wonderful students.

I have always had a love of children and have worked within the Adams 12 School District as well as the Douglas County School District before coming to Cherry Creek Academy. I am currently finishing up school to obtain a degree in secondary education with a focus on literature.

ACCELERATED READER
Accelerated Reader (AR) is a fundamental part of Cherry Creek Academy's curriculum.

What is Accelerated Reader?
AR allows students to independently read books within the proper skill level. It also provides instant feedback to students and teachers for reading intervention and instruction that can be customized to an individual student's needs.

How does AR work?
Students' reading skills are assessed quarterly with the STAR reading test and a reading range (ZPD) is determined. A student's range, for example, may be 1.5 to 3.7. This means that this student may read books with difficulty levels equivalent to first grade, fifth month norms through third grade, seventh month norms.

A point goal is assigned using this reading range. Teachers may adjust goals and reading ranges, based on knowledge of the student's classroom performance. Students then check out books within their reading range, read them and take a quiz. Points are awarded based on the number of correct answers.

How is AR used in the CCA Library?
Reading levels are identified on each AR library book using color-coded dots. The dots indicate difficulty level and the maximum number of points that can be earned by taking a comprehension quiz after reading an AR book. For example, all labels that are appropriate for first grade reading levels are color-coded dark green. A green label with a 1.8/2 tells the student that the book has a difficulty level equivalent to the first grade eighth month norm and is worth a maximum of 2 AR quiz points. Students can, as a result, easily identify books within their reading range, check them out, and work toward point goals.

How do I track my student's AR points?
Renaissance Home Connect allows parents to monitor their student's AR progress from home.

How to Get Home Connect
Your student will bring home instruction letter every quarter. Use the information within it to log on.

Another way to access your student's information is by clicking here . Your student can then provide the username and password. It is the same one they use everyday at school.

Email Notifications
If you would like to receive emails showing your student's quiz results, click the Email Setup link in Renaissance Home Connect and follow the directions.

To be sure these emails reach your inbox, add [email protected] to your address book.

How can I tell if a book is in the AR Program?
The website    arbookfind.com will help you find Accelerated Reader books, choose books at the appropriate reading level, find quiz numbers and point values.

Please contact Amy Larson, Cherry Creek Academy Librarian, with any questions contact by clicking here .

TRAFFIC/SAFETY:
JHL has planned ahead to minimize the impact to normal school operations, including traffic. Morning drop off and afternoon pick up will not change. JHL has scheduled all deliveries and truck/equipment traffic outside of our drop off and pick up times.

JHL is also working to create a safety video for our website, highlighting the efforts JHL takes to separate students from the construction as well as their thorough background checks for their employees, and other important efforts being taken to ensure a safe construction site.Look for that video mid-August. JHL, DCS, RTA architects, and CCA leadership meet and discuss new construction tasks that involve safety matters at weekly Owner, Architect, Constructor meetings to ensure the safest site possible.

TOURS:
We are working with JHL Constructors and DCS, CCA's Owner's Rep, to schedule monthly tours for anyone interested in walking the project to hear and see first hand the progress being made. These tours will be held immediately following our regularly scheduled monthly PTO meetings. The first one will be on Friday, August 18th at approximately 9:00am.
