CCA is excited to introduce a new digital bulletin board that offers another communication platform for our wonderful community. There you will find carpool requests, exciting local events (outside of CCA or CCSD) and more.   • May 16th & 17th: Volunteers Opportunities for Art Show: Volunteers needed during the school day (7:30 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.) to help hang art for the CCA Art Show. Please click here to email Jodi Peterson if you are available.

Spread the joy of reading to the Boys and Girls Club of Colorado and help CCA Alumni Maddie Ford earn her
Girl Scout Gold Award.

Donate your gently worn books for children of all ages, and Maddie will see that they get to kids who need them.

Boxes will be located in the lobby during the school reading competition from April 23 rd through May 17 th .

Teacher Feature
Mr. Hargreaves began his career at CCA as a 4 th  grade teacher.  He quickly realized how much he loved CCA and soon transitioned into the role of the Elementary School Assistant Principal. 

Before joining the CCA Eagles, Mr. Hargreaves attended The University of Wyoming where he earned his degree in secondary education. Mr. Hargreaves attended the University of Colorado for his Master's degree in Educational Leadership and now works with their Educational Leaders to conduct research for the University. Four years ago he married his wonderful wife, Nicole. Together they have a beautiful daughter, Abigail.  

When Mr. Hargreaves is not at CCA, he enjoys spending time with his family, playing sports and working around the house. Mr. Hargreaves is excited to see the year winding down and summer on the horizon!

Vicky McGlinchey grew up in the town of Farmingdale, which is located on Long
Island, in New York. Living on Long Island she was always able to hit the beach
within minutes. She has lived in several locations over the last 17 years, mostly on
the east coast following her husband Mike’s career coaching collegiate football.
Colorado is the furthest west she has ever lived. As an adult, Mrs. McGlinchey has
lived in New Hampshire, different parts of Maryland, and North Carolina.

Mrs. McGlinchey currently teaches third grade at CCA. The 2018-2019 school year
will be her 17 th year teaching. She is extremely excited for her transition to
Kindergarten.

When Mrs. McGlinchey is not at CCA she enjoys spending time with her family.
During the fall, much of her time is spent cheering on the Colorado School of Mines
football team. In the spring, she spends her weekends at the baseball field watching
her son Cole play baseball, or at gymnastic meets watching her daughter Ashley
compete.
Important Announcement from the Health Clinic
This is a reminder that all students going into the 6th grade next school year need a Tdap(Tetanus, diphtheria, pertussis) immunization. 
This is a required vaccine.

Finding AR Books Just Got a Little Easier
The BookScanner App makes it easy to find Accelerated Reader books on Apple  iPads and iPhones. Now your trip to the public library for your AR reading materials can be much more efficient.

The app lets you know if a book has an AR quiz. Just scan the ISBN number on the back. You will also get the
  • Reading level (ATOS BL)
  • Number of AR points available for taking a quiz 
  • Quiz number 

It will also keep a history on each scanned book for easy reference, which you can delete at any time.

     CCA K-6 TH GRADE READING COMPETITION
April 23 rd thru May 17 th
Two teams, the Sly Foxes and the Wise Owls will compete in an all school reading competition to see which can earn the most Accelerated Reader points. Mr. Hargreaves and Dean Loomis will co-captain the parliament of Wise Owls while Mr. Cerny and Mrs. Nowak will co-captain the Skulk of Sly Foxes. (Yes! This is what groups of owls and foxes are called!)

The Rules
Teams must maintain an 85 percent or higher quiz average to receive full credit for all points that are earned. For example, if a team has an overall quiz average of less than 85 percent, then the total team points are multiplied by that average. A team with 1,000 points and an 80 percent quiz average will only receive 800 points of the 1,000 possible points.

Students who do not adequately help their team earn points are ineligible for prizes.
Students may only take tests in their designated reading range.
An entire class may not take a quiz on the same book during the challenge period (except kindergarten).
        Prizes will be awarded for every 750 AR team points earned.

750 Points – Stuffed Animal Day Bring your favorite stuffed animal to school. Giant stuffed animals are not allowed.The award date will be announce.
1,500 Points – Crazy Hair Day Fix your hair to look like an animal or just go crazy with it. The award date will be announced.
2,250 Points – Crazy Socks and Shoes Day Students may wear any hard-soled shoes with a back, as long as they are not open toed, flip-flops, Heelies, cleats or have a heel higher than 2 inches. The award date will be announced.
3,000 Points – Pajama Day Students may not wear tank tops, spaghetti straps, tight yoga pants or anything inappropriately revealing. Use the school dress code as a guideline. All students must wear hard-soled shoes. The award date will be May 18 th .
The Ultimate Prize – The team with the most competition points will earn animal ball caps and wristbands that may be worn all day on May 18 th . The victors will also enjoy root beer floats during lunch recess.
GO WILD ABOUT BOOKS!
Accelerated Reader 100 Point Club

Students who meet the following requirements by the end of the year, become members of the 100 Point Club and are awarded a customized medal engraved with their name.

Yearly Point Requirements by Grade
Kindergarten - 45 AR points
First Grade - 65 AR points
Second Grade - 90 AR points
Third through Sixth Grades - 100 AR points
Seventh and Eighth Grades - 125 AR points

Seventh and Eighth Grade students may take AR quizzes to earn points, even though they no longer have an Accelerated Reader requirement.

The points and a cumulative quiz average of 85 percent must be earned
by Friday, May 11 th .

Former CCA alumni Emma Hope, holds the record, earning a whopping 2,004 points within one year. She was only in the fifth grade, at the time, and has held the record since 2009. That is long time! Is it time for a new record holder?

Greetings CCA Families, 

We are wrapping up our first year of Cub Scouts with Pack 222- CCA’s own Cub Scout Pack, and we’ve had a wonderful time. Next year, our program will be expanding in some exciting ways. Family Scouting is a new model being introduced that allows both boys and girls to experience the fun and engaging scouting experience. We often have siblings attending our meetings and participating in our events. Now- these siblings can fully participate! If you have a son or daughter who might want to participate in Cub Scouts this summer or next fall, fill out  this form  and we’ll be in touch!

Students DO NOT have access to a microwave;
however, we do have hot water for the students who bring their own “Cup Noodles.”

Champions will also be hosting a Parents Night Out event in the Parker area on Friday May 18 th . The hours will be from 6: 00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. Attendance is free for new Champions families, and $10 for currently attending families. New Champions families will be eligible for a free week of child care (summer or fall) if they register with Champions by May 31 st !
Summer Registration
Champions is looking forward to some great activities and trips this summer! Thursdays will be our day for field trips, including the Butterfly Pavilion, Splash and Swim days, a Rockies game, the Zoo, Putt-Putt, as well as local parks and resource centers. The kids will also enjoy on site visits from Mad Science, the Fire Department, local museums and more. 

Teachers will also be leading weekly activities in Garage Band, Yoga, Sports, and Fitness. We will have kid-formed club activities on Mondays. Each regularly scheduled day will include individual and group activities based on weekly themes. Please see the board posted at Champions, or contact Jasper for more details.

You can register online in your parent account. Summer program will be held here at CCA, and hours will be 7:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. Monday- Friday. We will be closed July 4 th . We will be hosting other schools here as well, and we anticipate some of these other schools will have a high enrollment.

Champions Summer Break Daily hours are officially 7:00 a.m. - 6:00 p.m . This should give most of you enough time to drop-off and pick-up around your work schedules. (Hours may have been wrongly quoted previously, apologies!)
