You are cordially invited to attend the CCAE State Conference 2013: California's Gold - Adult Education, April 18-20, 2013 at the Sheraton Grand in Sacramento, California.

CCAE 2013 speakers and presenters will guide us as we celebrate the luminous 158 year history of adult education in California.  We will mine ore from the depths of the current adult education system of delivery and stake our claim to a strategic plan for the future of the Adult Education Gold Mine.  Adult education students, fresh from the mine, will share tales of education and training that fills their poke with valuable nuggets of solid education gold.

It has never been more important to gather in person with fellow miners to share best practices and trace promising veins to the future of Adult Education.

Please consider signing up to volunteer during this exciting, professional development and networking opportunity.  http://ccaestate.org/conference2013registration.html.

In addition, you are encouraged to propose a presentation about things you do that result in improved student learning outcomes. http://ccaestate.org/conference2013presenters.html.

Finally, please share photos of your programs, schools, and learners that you have by emailing them to Branka Marceta, brankamarceta@gmail.com.

President's Message

Dear Members,
In this edition of the Communicator, you will learn about a number of exciting ways you can make a difference in our fight to save adult education. Now is the time to pull together  in preparation for CCAE's Legislative Day at the Capitol. Here are some important steps that we ask you to take:

Review the latest talking points on K-12 Adult Education and the Governor's LCFF proposal.

Revise the California Adult School Fact Sheet to include your district-specific information, and send a copy of your completed sheet to membership@ccaestate.org.

Contact your elected officials  at their district offices - Senator & Assembly member, and schedule a site visit for the member to visit your school.

Utilize the NASCAR sample letter to obtain and show support from your community for K-12 Adult Education. Be sure to send a copy of your completed letter to membership@ccaestate.org.

I encourage you to take the time now to schedule your meetings for Leg Day on April 17th.  I hope to see you there!

Christian Nelson

CCAE President

Funding Estimates Released for the Governor's LCFF Proposal

This week, the Department of Finance (DOF) released estimates for school district allocations associated with the Governor's Local Control Funding Formula (LCFF) suggesting that no district will receive less than it has this school year and even suggesting the "vast majority" will receive modest to significant revenue increases.   Recall, the Governor's plan would provide a base amount that all school districts would receive with additional funding provided to districts based on their population of English language learners, low income students, and foster youth.

DOF estimates that about 230 school districts and charter schools will receive little or no additional funding under the Governor's plan. The majority of these entities are basic aid districts where local property taxes are sufficient to cover the need. Click here for more information. Read the full CCAE Legislative report . You are also welcome to view the Montibello Group's Monthly Newsletter which is widely disseminated to legislators.
