Monthly Minutes
September 2016
A Message from Child Care Aware of NH
The leaves are changing, the air is crisp, October has arrived. With it's arrival, the fall has brought the hustle and bustle to CCAoNH.  The staff at CCAoNH have been hard at work. We have already hosted one conference and just released the brochure for Conway's "Caring for Our Children: Health, Safety, Nutrition and Wellness Conference" on November 5, 2016.  See below for details.  Our Director's and Leadership Collaboratives are back up and running and in October we are hosting 21 trainings across the state.

October also brings our Third Annual NH Early Childhood Leadership Summit featuring Julie Bartkus.  Look below for details about this amazing professional development opportunity.

Behind the scenes, CCAoNH staff are working on several projects.  We are in the process of creating a newly designed website.  There is custom development being done to the NH Professional Registry.  We are getting ready to release this years Progressive Training and TA Pilot Program and putting together some great professional development opportunities in addition to what is in our training calendar.

This month, we also have several staff flying to Columbus, Ohio for the Child Care Aware of America Leadership Institute.  This conference focuses on how we, as leaders, can have a positive impact on children and families.

W e hope you enjoy this month's edition of Monthly Minutes and we wish you a safe and happy October.

The 2016 Childcare Immunization Report will be released in the next few weeks, usually around October 15th and it is due November 15, 2016. Look for an email around mid-October (check your spam folder if you don’t see it). If we do not have an email contact for you, the report will be mailed to you via the US Postal Service during the second half of October.

Now is a good time to be sure your health and immunization records are up to date.

Do you need a tool to help you to track immunizations? Looking for a guide on how to complete the annual Childcare Immunization Report?

Look no further! The NH Immunization Program has created a guide just for you. Included in “New Hampshire Child Care Provider’s Guide to Immunizations” are the requirements and recommendations, the basic procedures for reviewing a child’s immunization record, how to complete the annual report and resources for you and for the families you serve. The Guide and other helpful resources can be found at our website: http://www.dhhs.nh.gov/dphs/immunization/ccproviders.htm

Water Testing at Licensed Child Care Programs using Private Wells for their Drinking Water Supply

The N.H. Department of Environmental Services (DES) recently mailed letters to licensed child care programs using private wells for their drinking water supply inviting them to participate in a water testing program. DES routinely urges private well owners to test their well water for the most common contaminants to protect the health of those consuming the water since some naturally-occurring and man-made contaminants have been linked to brain and nervous system damage, chronic disease, and cancer. Children are more susceptible to the possible negative health effects of consuming water that contains unhealthy levels of contaminants because a child’s growing body may absorb more of a particular contaminant than an adult’s body, and may be more sensitive to its damaging effects.

DES is encouraging child care programs that received an invitation letter to participate in the testing program. DES staff will collect your samples and transport them to the laboratory and testing will be performed at no cost to you (approx. $500 value).

If your program received an invitation letter, please respond to DES by October 15th to set up a sampling appointment. If you are a licensed program that uses a private well and did not receive an invitation letter, please contact Christine Bowman at DES at (603) 271-8866 or christine.bowman@des.nh.gov.

Create a great offer by adding words like "free" "personalized" "complimentary" or "customized." A sense of urgency often helps readers take an action, so think about inserting phrases like "for a limited time only" or "only 7 remaining!"
