Canton Country
Day School

A Message from Mike Brown, Interim Head of School
|
Dear Canton Country Day School Families,
This Monday we are hoping to start a new tradition at Canton Country Day School. Our first Trunk or Treat activity will take place from 6:00-8:00 p.m. We are trying to keep this very simple, however, for those of you who have not participated in an event like this before, here is how it works:
1. We gather for a potluck dinner from 6:00-7:00 p.m. We will have a fire pit (we need firewood if you have some) along with hot dogs, lemonade, and coffee. All we ask is for you to bring a "heavy" appetizer to share and additional drinks if you need them.
2. Families circle their cars in one parking lot and at 7:00 p.m. students "trick or treat" from car to car. We should be finished 7:45 p.m. at the latest.
The purpose of this event is have fun, build community, and in the kid's view - to get more candy! Families are welcome to decorate their cars, sit outside with a bowl and lounge chairs, or join another family. However you trunk or treat, we would love to have you join us. Please RSVP to
Pam Popa
so we know how many to plan for.
I am very excited to witness my first CCDS musical this week. Please come and see Shrek Jr. on Thursday night at 7:00 p.m.. Tickets are available for $5 each.
Have a wonderful week!
Mike Brown

Third Grade Native American Program
|
The Native American project was held Tuesday, October 24, 2017 at 6:00 p.m. This project encompassed individual and small group research projects, writing, music, drama, art, public speaking, Wax Museum, folk tales, STEM house projects, art work, songs and dance.
One of the most fun parts of this program was the wax museum. Students chose a real Native American person from the past or present and became that person for the wax museum portion of the presentation. Students dressed in costume and stood frozen in a chosen pose. People pressed his/her button (a round sticker) and the student came to life and shared a memorized factual narrative of his/her Native American’s life story. When they finished with their speech, they went back to their frozen pose until another person pushed their button.
Younger students look forward to the third grade just for this experience, and older students look back on their third grade Native American experience with fondness!

The PK & JK Fall Festival was held on Wednesday, October 25, 2017, from 10:30-11:30 a.m. This event was so successful because of the many parent volunteers. The children played games, enjoyed face painting, crafts, and nutritious snacks! At the end of this event, the early learners walked on the rope to show the other classes their costumes before changing for lunch.

CCDS Parents' Association
This past week was VERY busy for the Parents’ Association! Night at the Races was a huge success, and from the feedback we’ve gotten, everyone had a great time! We also had our Fall Festivals last week. Thank you to all the parents who donated and volunteered their time to help!
This week, we are supporting the Middle School’s celebration of El Dia de los Muertos by providing goody bags for all the kids. Looking towards November, we will have our Coffee with Mike on the 15th. We hope to see you there!
