We accept that God is the moving spirit in all and the loving essence of the universe.

Sunday Celebrations

June 30:  Rev. Mary Garry.  Universal Church of the Master retiring president Reverend Sandy Clark will install the incoming president Reverend Mary Garry.  Following that installation, Reverend Garry will install the new officers of the Board.  Mary will then share with us some of her goals and strategies for UCM in the year to come. She will also discuss "Why would anyone want to become a minister". Years of working at her husband, Reverend Tom Garry's side, watching him sponsor and develop dozens of ministers for UCM gave her a unique perspective.  She will also share her path to the ministry, under her sponsor husbands guidance.

July 7: "Self-Reliance: Your Inner Truth"  Joyce Brown and Patty Baker.  Self reliance is understanding your own signals and learning to trust them. There are those who would call this intuition, discernment, and paying attention to that small still voice inside.  We would also call this, listening to your soul.
Self-reliance is based on creating a positive way of living for yourself, and can be of benefit to those around you, provided they can allow it to be so.
But the key begins with you.   You cannot look to others to be your self-reliance.   Others can give support, compassion, friendship, incredible teachings. But the final decision rests with you.

"Supreme Decision for California"

by Rev. Doti Boon

This has been a very exciting week. The Supreme Court's ruling changes the way California will be looking at not only Civil Rights of the LGBT community, but also the way people love one another. I started to write an entire article on this subject and then decided the people who sent me messages did a lot better job of expressing the joy, excitement and congratulations than I could possible do. Here are some of the best. Just now the Ninth Circuit's decision was released and there will be marriages galore commencing around the state!
What an amazing day for family and friends - I watched the marriage of Sandy Stier and Kris Perry and cried for us all. They worked so hard and spent so much time and money to get legally married. This isn't just about taxes, benefits, and legality. It is about love, compassion and being accepted in the eyes of every one that their love is worthwhile just like all committed couples.
Here are some of those comments:

The United States Supreme Court has declared DOMA unconstitutional and California Governor Jerry Brown has directed the CA Department of Public Health to advise counties to issue marriage licenses to same-sex couples as soon the 9th Circuit Court's stay of Proposition 8 is lifted. That should be soon since SCOTUS has sent the case back to them with "instructions to dismiss the case." A wonderful day for equality! Can you hear the wedding bells ringing?
S.S.

We wanted to share our joy with you all on this historic day as CA returns to the fold of the enlightened and now allows marriage between loving committed partners without any regard for their sexual orientation. Part of moving the mainstream to a level of greater understanding is simply demonstrating the commitment and love for each other that all of you have demonstrated in the past turbulent years.
M & T

This is an extraordinary day in the fight for equality for LGBT Americans who want to marry and make a lifetime commitment to each other. The Supreme Court's ruling today ends the two-tiered marriage system currently in place - finally allowing the federal government to publicly acknowledge gay couples' love and commitment. This is a huge and powerful moment in the fight to allow every loving couple the opportunity to marry.
However, for as great as today's news is, our work isn't done yet. Today's decision applies only to federal recognition of marriages, it does not affect the section of the discriminatory Defense Of Marriage Act (DOMA) that says states can refuse to acknowledge marriages of gay couples from other states. The freedom to marry is a basic freedom that should not be denied to anyone. This corrosive and immoral policy will still stand until Congress fully repeals DOMA.
L.S.

For the last 29 years, I have been in a committed relationship with the person I fell in love with at church. To me it did not matter that the person I fell in love with was a woman, it was important that the love I felt for this person and their spirituality, humor, pride of being a truthful honest person, and their love of Jesus, was willing to love me.
I was blessed to grow up with a Mother who never saw color, race, or straight or gay. Today I thank her for always loving me and supporting me even through two divorces. What was important to my Mom was that I was happy. She loved my partner as her own child (sometimes more than me), but always, always loving me.
For twenty nine (soon to be 30) years we have built a life and home together fully knowing that we did not qualify for Federal benefits that all other married couples received when they signed that piece of paper recognized them as worthy.
If straight couples are worried about defending marriage, how about walking your talk and respecting your marriages and the rights it gives you. The right to visit your loved one in the hospital, the right to co-parent your children, the right after 45yrs of a relationship through better and worse, to receive benefits from your deceased spouse.
The bottom line is Jesus came here to teach us a way of life, to love one another, to love him, and to do the very best we can to live a Christ-like life.
Maybe someday soon we can look at people's hearts NOT their political beliefs, or who the love. Everyone deserves to be loved and cherished, lets celebrate love and not dogma.
