The Future of the ACA & Health Care

Join us to hear from a panel of experts who represent the key stakeholders in the health care industry, as well as our keynote speaker, who will discuss what has worked, what hasn't worked, and the future of the ACA.

Asking How Much an Applicant was Previously Paid May Actually Cost You
By Ashley LeBrun, Esq.
Archer Law
On January 23, 2017, Mayor Jim Kenney of Philadelphia signed into law a bill, which prohibits employers from asking prospective employees about their wage history or requiring prospective employees to disclose their wage history.  The bill prohibits employers from relying on wage history in making its decisions unless applicants made the disclosure willingly and knowingly. Also, "wage" is broadly defined as "all earnings of an employee, regardless of whether determined on time, task, piece, commission or other method of calculation and including fringe benefits, wage supplements, or other compensation whether payable by the employer from employer funds or from amounts withheld from the employee's pay by the employer."  Any violation of this provision, like any other violation under Philadelphia's Fair Practices Ordinance, could cost an employer up to $2,000 in penalties per violation in addition to other remedies.

Lisa Simon
CEO, SPRYTE Communications
Lisa Simon, a longtime member of the Chamber of Commerce Southern New Jersey, announced Jan. 31 that her 26-year-old Philadelphia public relations agency, Simon PR, has renamed itself  SPRYTE Communications
A focus on healthcare is the inspiration for the name change, said Simon, a past president of the Philadelphia Public Relations Association and the 2010 inductee to its Hall of Fame.
The firm's reincarnation as SPRYTE Communications comes with strong positioning for healthcare communications opportunities.  "Healthcare has been a cornerstone of our business over the years including our most significant current engagements," Simon said.  "We are now leveraging this experience into a new specialty firm with capabilities in media relations, reputation management, referral marketing, public affairs and digital content and social marketing."

I follow a networking strategy that will lead into meetings and hopefully eventual business. After I meet someone for the first time at an event face to face  I make sure to get their card. Sometimes we may not even talk about business which is just fine. Either later the same day or the next I make sure to send an email requesting a get-together for coffee.  I have already interacted with a particular person, even if only for a few minutes so I am fresh in their minds. Now we can coordinate a day on the calendar to meet and really get to know each other and our respective businesses.

Imagine being able to assist local charities by doing something as simple as offering your employees access to beverages in your facility. Coca-Cola, in partnership with CCSNJ, offers members access to the Vend4Cause program. Vending machines and/or coolers supported by Coca-Cola can be placed in your business and a portion of every dollar spent is given to a charity of your choice. For more information click here.
