Please join us for our annual Legislative Reception as we honor members of the State Senate and General Assembly who represent Southern New Jersey.

CCSNJ Holiday Party
CCSNJ members celebrated the end of another successful year for the South Jersey business community with a holiday cocktail reception featuring premium hors d'oeuvres and a cash bar on December 10, 2015. The Chamber also presented the Campbell's Soup Award for Extraordinary Leadership to Kimble A. Byrd, JD, and Linda W. Ross, Ph.D., of Rowan University.
Delivering Value in Health Care
For many people faced with serious illness, securing high-quality health care is a top priority, trumping cost and location. So, how can health care providers deliver this quality care locally and with a reasonable price tag? This is the question that executives from Virtua, the Children's Hospital of Pennsylvania (CHOP) and PennMedicine sought to answer Dec. 16.

Meet the Policymakers
On Dec. 18, the Chamber hosted Senate President Sweeney for a lunch meeting with nearly 150 members. The Senate President discussed several controversial topics, such as the expansion of gaming outside of AC, the current state of the Transportation Trust Fund and his proposal to amend New Jersey's constitution to fund the state pension system.

PA Supreme Court Rules No Freebies For Employers
When It Comes to After-Thought Non-Compete Agreements
By Thomas A. Muccifori, Esq., Partner, Archer & Greiner P.C.
On November 18, 2015, in Socko v. Mid-Atlantic Sys. of CPA, Inc., the Pennsylvania Supreme Court considered for the first time whether the enforcement of a non-competition agreement, entered into after the start of employment, could be challenged by an employee for lack of consideration even if the agreement contains express language indicating that the parties "intend to be legally bound." The Court held that an employee could make such a challenge, despite the fact that the Uniform Written Obligations Act ("UWOA") would prevent such a challenge in the case of any other type of contract.

David Socko ("Socko") was employed as a salesman for Mid-Atlantic Systems of CPA, Inc. ("Mid-Atlantic"). Upon hire, Socko signed an employment agreement which contained a two-year non-competition provision. A year later, Socko signed a more restrictive, non-competition agreement. The agreement stated that the parties intended to be "legally bound." Socko was not given any benefit or any change in his existing employment status in exchange for signing the agreement. Thereafter, Socko left his employment and began working for a competitor. When Mid-Atlantic informed Socko's new employer of the non-competition agreement signed by Socko, he was fired. Go to full story

Dear Chamber Member:

The Federal Reserve Bank has issued a streamlined edition of its fourth- quarter survey. We ask that you please complete the following  questionnaire by Tuesday, January 12, 2016 (see link below) concerning economic conditions at your firm over the past few months. The survey should take no more than one minute, and your feedback is extremely valuable.

Your written comments are especially helpful to the Federal Reserve Bank, so please take the time to comment on conditions relative to your business. Also, if you wish to remain anonymous, you may simply leave the company name field blank.

The survey is administered by the Federal Reserve Bank of Philadelphia in cooperation with the Chamber of Commerce Southern New Jersey and provides important information to the Federal Reserve for evaluating changes in the business climate of the region.

Thank you for your time!
