Dodgers Pitch in
to Rescue the Mission

LOS ANGELES - The Los Angeles Dodgers and the Dodgers Foundation joined the citywide effort to collect donations and items for the San Fernando Valley Rescue Mission.

When 11-year-old William lost his favorite possession, a Dodger blanket, earlier this month in the Mission fire, the Dodgers stepped up to the plate to help.

Last week, the Dodgers led an online donation effort and invited Dodger fans to bring donation items to the stadium for a collection drive. With the help of Dodger Alumni, Dodger wives, staff from the office Councilmember Paul Krekorian and the Mission, they collected more than 70 boxes of items.

The Dodgers also invited the displaced families to attend the Wednesday night series finale with the Miami Marlins. During the pregame presentation, Dodger stars Clayton Kershaw and Chad Billingsley presented William and the rest of the Mission families with new blankets.

"The Dodgers are not only our city's top-notch baseball team, but a generous community partner," said Councilmember Krekorian. "The moment the Dodgers heard about the terrible loss suffered by the San Fernando Valley Rescue Mission and the families it serves, they offered to step up and help Rescue the Mission. I urge everyone to follow the Dodgers' lead by donating money, clothing and personal items in whatever amount possible."

Cash donations can be made online at rescuethemission.org. Fire stations in the San Fernando Valley will accept in-kind donations of items that are still in critical need, including clothes, shoes and small household items, like coffee makers, pots and pans, decorations and dishes, and personal hygiene items.

For more information on how to donate, please contact (888) 937-4448.

The other installation areas are: Ben Avenue and Otsego Street; Hartsook Street and Morella Avenue; Hartsook Street and Radford Avenue; Hesby Street and Westpark Drive; Addison Street and Westpark Drive; Carpenter Avenue and Huston Street; Morella Avenue and Otsego Street; and Gentry Avenue and Huston Street.

Councilmember Krekorian attended the stop sign installation, located on Ben Avenue and Hartsook Street, to mark the project's completion.

"This effort has been a true partnership between the Los Angeles Department of Transportation, community leaders and my office," Councilmember Krekorian said. "It's a real accomplishment that will make Valley Village safer for commuters, residents, pedestrians and anyone who comes through this area."
