FINNEY CHILD DEVELOPMENT CENTER'S NEW CHILDREN'S GARDEN IS COMPLETE!

It's here! "The Children's Garden" is CDA Finney Child Development Center's new outdoor classroom garden, equipped with fruit-bearing trees and garden beds for students to plant fruits, vegetables, and flowers! On Friday, September 30th, 2016, CDA staff, teachers, business partners and parents volunteered time and resources to help put the finishing touches on The Children's Garden.

Designed by Ilisa Goldman from Rooted in Place Landscape and Architecture and Consulting and with the help of Bank of The West, San Diego Self Storage, and First 5 San Diego QPI, this outdoor classroom will help young children attending the preschool to learn through nature and art. We can't thank Rooted in Place enough for their wonderful work on CDA Finney's Children Garden!

THE NEW CHILDREN'S MUSEUM FEATURES CDA FOR "ToddlerTime"

"ToddlerTime" with CDA's Early Childhood Program Coordinator, Susan Holley.
Every Friday, The New Children's Museum hosts "ToddlerTime", their facilitated toddler programming which values and supports healthy bodies and minds with music, movement, and social play for young children.  On Friday, September 2nd, 2016, our very own Susan Holley presented a workshop on getting your toddler to eat new foods!

As CDA's Early Childhood Program Coordinator, Susan was a natural at helping parents with what can feel like an endless challenge.  "It is the parents job to decide what, when, and where the child gets to eat, and the child decides how much and whether to eat what you offer" says Susan. As part of the workshop, Susan had a fun taste test which included a recipe for Black Bean and Mango salad. The children loved it and even came back for seconds  and  thirds, much to their parents dismay!

CDA NUTRITION HOSTS NAFCC RESOURCE TABLE

During July 6th through the 9th, The National Association of Family Child Care (NAFCC) held their annual conference in CDA's hometown of San Diego. Over 900 Child Care Providers from across America attended numerous workshops throughout the event. The Child & Adult Care Food Program (CACFP) had a resource table at the conference which was overseen by CDA Nutrition Field Rep, Jennifer De La Torre, who also provided Spanish translations for several workshops.

It was the CACFP's first time at the conference and they have already been invited back as a Resource Exhibitor for future conferences! Way to go, Jessica!

We Need Your Help!

CDA The Parks Child Development Center Design
CDA is seeking funding for a project that will transform The Parks Child Development Center playground into an outdoor, nature-based classroom.

The Parks Child Development Center is a California State Preschool Program located in an economically disadvantaged National City neighborhood serving approximately 124 low income children, ages 3-4 years-old. The project's design has already been completed and estimated to cost $128,316 including materials and labor. The design includes art, science and nature exposure in a variety of play areas such as: an explore and seek wildlife corridor, a trike track open play area, an express mural and art wall, a dig in and build sand area, a sensory play nature area, a sensory water play area, and a community garden.

We already have $21,500 in funding, but we are seeking support for the remaining $106,816.

Help us make this project a reality! Invest in high quality early education and allow us to provide children with the tools required to succeed in life. If you would like to support this project, feel free to contact me at (619) 427-4411 x1201 or by email at [email protected]. Thank you for your generous support!
