Raising Money Without Asking for It

During these winter months, giving can decrease as people prepare and recover from holiday shopping and gift giving. A report by Campbell Rinker shows that 7 in 10 Americans say they will give more sparingly to charities in the coming months.  But there are ways to help your donors help your organization without making them give you money.  Here are some ideas from Guidestar:
  1. While there is something special in going to a store and picking out a gift personally, many people choose to do their shopping online.  Register your organization with GoodShop and direct your supporters to start their online shopping trips there before going on to any of the more than 2,500 stores which offer to percentage of almost every purchase to your organization. Plus, GoodShop has more than 100,000 coupons listed to save your supporters money.
  2. Hold a gadget drive at your organization for old electronics and turn them in for cash.  Gazelle for Good is a great resource for setting up a gadget drive fundraiser. They even let you personalize a webpage for easy online promotion. 100% of the value goes to your cause.
  3. American Express and Citi Card offer cardholders the chance to turn their credit card points into charitable donations.
  4. GoodSearch.com is a Yahoo!-powered search engine and it donates about a penny per search. It works just like any other search engine but a donation is made each time someone searches on it.

There are a few more ideas on GuideStar here.

2011 was an exciting year for us at CDP. We launched the Center for Community Revitalization and slowly transitioned all of our training and technical assistance into this beautiful new facility. We rejoiced with many of you as you participated in training, watched your organizations grow, secured funding for your important work and launched new programs or initiatives. We are so proud of the impact you continue to make in your community and we are so excited to partner with you. You continue to amaze and inspire us. THANK YOU for the work you do.

2012 will bring some changes to CDP as we continue to evolve our services and programs to best meet the needs of nonprofit partners. The Center for Community Revitalization (CCR) represents our new approach to working with nonprofits.

One such change is in the cost of our capacity-building trainings.  The regular cost for trainings is now $69 for half-day trainings and $99 for full day trainings. Members of the Center for Community Revitalization are invited to attend all capacity-building trainings at no charge as part of their membership.

An Associate Membership is only $125/year and includes all capacity building trainings, a monthly members-only e-newsletter, and annual use of the CCR Board Room or Training Room. This is a great cost-saving deal for your organization to attend any (and as many) of the trainings we offer for a whole year.

Should you wish to join at a different membership level, here are the rates and descriptions:

  • An Investment Membership is $150/mo and includes all of the benefits of an Associate Membership but also includes 4 hours of technical assistance each month, access to the Nonprofit Resource Center, and monthly access to the Board Room or Training Room.
  • An Investment Plus Membership is only $250/mo and includes all the benefits of an Investment Membership but also includes two hours of direct service each month - writing grants, bookkeeping services, grant administration, etc.
  • For those interested in housing your nonprofit with us, Resident Membership offers affordable private office space on our renovated 2nd floor.

Complete and submit a membership application or contact us at (513) 858-1738 for more information.

**Remember that an Associate Membership means you can send as many people from your organization for free to any of our trainings for a full year!

National Conference on Ending Family and Youth Homelessness

Millennium Biltmore Hotel, Los Angeles, CA

Description  Vulnerability plus a crisis: the recipe for homelessness. After three years and more of heightened unemployment, crises that families used to weather now leave them in shelters, on the streets, or in a host of unstable housing situations. Youth, on their own or as new parents, are also increasingly vulnerable; unable to attach to the labor market but unsupported by families or the safety net, they are also threatened by homelessness. At its National Conference on Ending Family and Youth Homelessness, people from across the country will gather to share successes and challenges, to learn the results of research, and to understand coming changes in policy, practice, and context.

Registration Early (until 12/5) - $400; Regular (until 1/16) - $450
