According to the 2010 American Community Survey, conducted by the U.S. Census Bureau, more than 70% of those who live in the Midwest were born in their current state of residence. Aside from having the highest population of foreign-born residents, less than half of the current population in the West was actually born in the state they currently reside in - the lowest of the regions studied.
