Upcoming Council Meeting
 
  SHI/CFCE has a Community Advisory Council that meets 4 times per year.  It is made up of agencies, teachers, administrators, parents, business and
 more.  The Council reviews budgets, pro gramming, share resources, community needs and networks with each other.....and we need to hear your voice!!! The council is an  important part of the work we do in your  communities, and the more partners we have on the council, the better work we can do!

This winter activity includes indoor gross motor play for the cold months, songs, games, movement as well as a morning snack, stories and handouts!!!  We meet at the indoor mall playground and start the program there!!!
Drop-In Playgroup (multiple sessions)
Moms, Dads, and caretakers of young children... Come join Carol Carver - Early Childhood Support Specialist- from Self Help, Inc. Coordinated Family & Community Engagement Program.   Parents can chat together, children can engage in toys-music-and- manipulatives together, and everyone will have some FUN!!!  The Playgroup will run for approximately 45 minutes- with free play lasting  about 20 minutes and then songs, stories, simple art and parachute play will be offered towards the later part!  Come join us for these FUN GET-TOGETHERS with others!  ALL are Welcomed!!!

Toddler Play-N-Learn (multiple sessions)
The Toddler Groups are a FREE one hour play time for children ages 12 months to 30 months and their parent/guardian. Take a magic carpet ride after school with Ms.  Marsha  at the Magic Carpet Book Club.  We will learn about a variety of topics in this monthly group including social justice, different cultures, and other topics of interest to children through books, short videos, and arts and crafts.  Each month we will take a journey through books and learn about our amazing world past and present.   Parents will receive handouts detailing what was covered in group and how to extend the learning at home.   This activity is for school age children grades k-4.  In November we will explore the world of Native Americans.  The children will be asked for input on topics for the remainder of the year. School age children and parents will come together and use games and manipulatives that are out on the tables as everyone gathers. Circle time will include- trivia facts about the particular animal, did you know facts, stories, etc. Then , with use of paints, they will create an art project which will be a different animal every month. Help your child prepare for reading, learning and life! Come to the Read and Rise Playgroup.
This FREE 5 session playgroup/conversation series is designed to empower families to support children's literacy development. Children and parents will be actively engaged in books, songs, activities and hands on materials that focus on literacy. Each family will go home with a different children's book every week to keep and add to their library at home! This program is great for children ages 5-10 who are home schooled.
Families must be willing to commit to the 5 weeks (scheduled vacations and illnesses are an exception). If you are unable to attend this group for any reason please call or email me to cancel your registration. Playgroup will not run during school vacation weeks and other school holidays. Parent Talks: Minimizing meltdowns and other multiple mishaps! @ Canton Public Library

Join Marsha Wright,M.Ed. Parent Child Educational Specialist to discuss various strategies to help manage meltdowns and learn general discipline strategies. We will focus on strategies to help children understand and respond to their emotions, discuss the importance of routines and rules in the lives of young children. This workshop is being presented in collaboration with the Dedham Regional Chapter MMOTA. Taking Care of Parents..PARENT TIME! @ Self Help Inc CFCE (Avon)

This is the first of a 5 part series just for parents. The staff here at CFCE witness first hand just how dedicated and committed you are to the well being of your children. Soooo, Carol Carver and Karen Mitchell decided, "let's do something for YOU!" We have scheduled a series of 5 parent workshops (1 per month) starting Feb. 6th! The first workshop will focus on relieving stress in your lives. One of the ways we can do that is to give you some ideas to keep your kids busy during the February Vacation. We also will talk about the importance of family meetings. (Even with your little ones). So come, relax, enjoy your night away from the kids and socialize with so many other parents who are in the same boat as you!  You must register for this workshop. Please Register ONLINE NOW!
