Issue Brief on 21st Century Cures Act
Issue Brief
This month CHDI released an Issue Brief " The 21st Century Cures Act: Opportunities for Connecticut."  Last year the U.S. Congress enacted legislation advancing mental health reform in America. Many of the provisions in the 21st Century Cures Act complement Connecticut's efforts to improve children's mental health services. This Issue Brief summarizes components of the legislation as they relate to  initiatives in and opportunities for Connecticut.

Journal of Pediatric Health Features CHDI's Research
on  Co-Managing Behavioral Health & Primary Care
An article published in the Journal of Pediatric Health Care (May-June 2017) is based on efforts by CHDI and UConn Health to develop and evaluate a tool for co-management of behavioral health and primary care. CHDI staff, Lisa Honigfeld and Susan Macary, along with UConn Health's Damian Grasso, co-authored the article:  "A Clinical Care Algorithmic Toolkit for Promoting Screening and Next-Level Assessment of Pediatric Depression and Anxiety in Primary Care."  The article is currently  available online .
Linking Child Obesity & Sugar Sweetened Beverages
CHDI submitted testimony to the Finance, Revenue and Bonding Committee members of the Connecticut General Assembly regarding an Act Concerning a Tax on Certain Sweetened Beverages. Testimony cited research linking consumption of sugary beverages and child obesity, as well as data from communities reducing sugary beverage consumption through tax policy. Obesity prevention in young children is one of CHDI's key areas of investment. Additional research and recommendations about this issue can be found in CHDI's:
