CHIA Series: Information Governance At-a-Glance
Blog series describes the "scalable framework" AHIMA has developed, called the Information Governance Adoption Model (IGAM), as described in AHIMA's Information Governance Toolkit 2.0. This model consists of ten organizational competencies which assist HIM professionals in focusing in on all areas of IG within an organization to implement an IG program.  Read the full CHIA series.

Competency: Analytics

Data can bring about motivation as well as ensure continuous performance improvement. First, define the goal to be accomplished and communicate the desired result so it is easily understood. Next, determine how to collect the data by including subject matter expert opinions. Accurately measure the analytic tool by confirming results with those who carry out the work. These details will help the organization understand the efforts and resources needed to move progress forward. Finally, remember to regularly share the business intelligence data to open up communication lines and drive decision-making.

California Tests Electronic Database For End-Of-Life Wishes
By Anna Gorman; CaliforniaHealthline, Dec 2016

Mary De Freze, who has heart problems, chronic lung disease and a history of falling, knows she may not have too many years left. And she's clear about what she wants - and doesn't want - at the end of her life.

Prompted by a state law that took effect this year, a coalition of emergency and social service providers is working to create an electronic registry for POLST forms so they will be available to first responders and medical providers when they are needed. The group is starting with a three-year pilot project in San Diego and Contra Costa counties that could serve as a model for a single, statewide registry. Paper-based POLST forms are used across the nation, but electronic registries exist only in a few states, including Oregon, New York and West Virginia.

Delay of Final Rule on the Confidentiality of Alcohol and Drug Treatment Information
Legal Action Center, January 25, 2017

The administration of President Donald Trump has issued a memorandum delaying implementation of all new and pending federal regulations. This regulatory "freeze" impacts the recently-released Final Rule modernizing federal regulations that govern the confidentiality of substance use disorder patient records, and the Supplemental Notice of Proposed Rulemaking (SNPRM) seeking comment on additional proposed changes to those regulations. The Final Rule and SNPRM, which were released by the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration and formally published in the Federal Register on Jan. 18, 2017, update and propose additional changes to the confidentiality regulations found at 42 C.F.R. Part 2, which are often referred to as "Part 2."
