CHS announces new scholarship program with Trident Tech
New scholarship honors Patti McGee

On Monday night at Charleston Horticultural Society's final lecture of their 2015-16 series season, CHS President Ann Calhoun announced to the large crowd of Charleston garden enthusiasts that the organization had just established a new scholarship with Trident Technical College (TTC) and their Horticultural Technology program, the Charleston Horticultural Society Scholarship.

The new Charleston Horticultural Society Scholarship will award one deserving horticultural studies student with $1000 per year, supporting that student both semesters in the advancement of their education. The selected student will also have opportunities to volunteer and possibly intern with a Charleston gardening professional during or after their studies.

As part of the announcement, President Ann Calhoun also shared with the crowd that the new TTC Charleston Horticultural Society Scholarship was established in honor of visibly surprised CHS Founding Member and long-time supporter and friend Evelyn Moore 'Patti' McGee. McGee, a 2012 recipient of the Garden Club of America's illustrious Honorary Member award for her
'extraordinary efforts in the fields of gardening, botany, conservation and education through the extension of honorary memberships' .

Mrs. McGee, widely known for her extensive home gardening and educational and conservation efforts throughout Charleston, has served as a board member of the Garden Conservancy, has been featured in numerous national publications, gardening books and television shows, and is also the 2009 recipient of the prestigious 1830 Award Medal from the Charleston Horticultural Society, the organization's highest honor for gardening and horticultural excellence.
