NATIONAL LIBRARY WEEK AT THE OAK RIDGE PUBLIC LIBRARY

Oak Ridge Public Library will join libraries in schools, campuses and communities nationwide in celebrating the dynamic changes that are happening in today's libraries.

April 10-16 is  National Library Week , a time to highlight the changing roles of libraries, librarians and library workers.

Libraries today are more about what they can do for library users as opposed to what they have for users. Libraries are not only a place of quiet study, but also creative and engaging community centers where patrons can learn how to use an electronic reader, get individual help with an online job application or listen to a story with their toddler

Oak Ridge Public Library is celebrating National Library Week by accepting donations for ADFAC (Aid to Distressed Families of Appalachian Counties) and the Oak Ridge Animal Shelter for the whole month of April.

For more information, visit Oak Ridge Public Library at the Civic Center, call (865) 425-3455, or visit the library's web site at www.orpl.org .

LINCOLN THE LAB FINDS A HOME
There was cause for much celebration at the Oak Ridge Animal Shelter (ORAS) this week, as long-timer dog, Lincoln, prepared to take a freedom ride to a rescue in Connecticut.

Shelter staff felt that a party, in Lincoln's honor, was in order, so that's just what happened, complete with cake, chips, and even a special dapper bow tie for Lincoln, who came to the shelter in September 2015, old, sick, emaciated, and mostly bald. Being qualified as a "no-kill shelter," ORAS, along with volunteer support, did everything possible to make Lincoln whole again over the last six months. Sharing Lincoln's come-back story on social media over and over finally made a difference when the heart a volunteer with a northern rescue was pricked.

Wheels began turning, transporters and rescues were vetted, and in a matter of three days, Lincoln's road to happiness was planned. He will be in required local foster care for two weeks before his northbound ride on April 1, looking back with a grateful heart to the wonderful people in and around ORAS who made this possible.

To find your Forever Pet please visit the Oak Ridge Animal Shelter website at animalshelter.oakridgetn.gov or the ORAS Facebook page.
