January 7, 2016

Back to school means back to keeping your student healthy in a large community environment. Some students returned to school this week experiencing cold and allergy symptoms, which means they cannot learn at their best. As our goal is to minimize the number of students impacted by winter colds, here are some things your child can do to keep healthy:
  • Use good hand washing! This is the number one thing students can do to prevent getting sick. While soap and water is ideal, alcohol based hand sanitizer can be used as well. Make sure your student keeps their hands moisturized as dry skin can crack and create potential opening for germs.
  • Use a tissue for coughs and sneezes. Another option is to use the crook of their elbow, which is better than using their hands.
  • Students should stay home if they are sick. Students must be fever free for 24 hours before returning to school.
  • Getting enough rest, proper nutrition, and stress management are additional ways students can prevent illnesses. I have spoken to several students who have shared that they aren't getting as much sleep as they should, not eating healthy including skipping breakfast, or feeling stressed.
Remember, sharing is caring, but not when it comes to illnesses!

Class of 2019
Computer Skills Testing Course
All students are required to complete the Computer Topics class before graduating from CJ.  However, students are given the opportunity during their freshman year to test out of the class if they so desire.  Testing out requires demonstrating competency in four areas -- keyboarding, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
The tests and training materials for the tests are available  online.  Students are strongly urged to complete the training before taking the tests. All four tests must be successfully completed by March 15, 2016 or the student will need to enroll in the Computer Topics class next year.
