As STEMM Coordinator, I strive to connect students, parents, and teachers to opportunities to learn about Science, Technology, Engineering, Math & Medicine as evidenced in the world.  Some exposure and awareness takes place within the CJ community: in classrooms with teachers and guests, during Homeroom STEMM Idol speaker sessions, during REACH Toys For God's Kids assembly sessions, Saturday STEMM workshops, and summer camps.

Other learning takes place outside CJ and in our greater regional community -  at area colleges, universities and research institutes, STEMM employer work sites, Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, museums and libraries.  Our region is rich with STEMM in action, talented individuals working in a variety of settings, doing STEMM work and applying STEMM principles to serve and improve the world.

I encourage you to watch for events and opportunities noted in the Parent Weekly, on the CJ STEMM page of the website and sent to students via email.  Help your son or daughter make the most of their four years at CJ and include STEMM awareness in the experience.   Attend college engineering open houses, see behind the scenes at area companies on National Manufacturing Day, learn about healthcare professions with Premier Health, job shadow a WPAFB scientist or engineer, or apply for part-time jobs or summer internships.

Information about the opportunities above and more is available on the CJ STEMM website under the "Opportunities" section.  Students and parents can browse all STEMM calendar events here. Feel free to contact me at any time to learn more about CJ STEMM.

Class of 2016
Senior Capstone Update and Important Dates
Phase One of the Senior Justice Capstone project is underway.  Seniors have been writing their proposals in religion class this week in order to meet the deadline which is Friday, Aug 28.  The proposal will detail the focus of their inquiry on a social justice issue, present at least three research questions and identify how it connects to Catholic social teaching. Seniors will also need to secure their mentor by Friday, Sept. 4. The Capstone Mentor breakfast is Wednesday, Sept. 9 at 8:45 a.m. in the school cafeteria. All seniors will report to the cafeteria to discuss their proposal with their mentor and plan their research. The Capstone project is one way the class of 2016 will carry out their role of becoming servant leaders in our community and world today.
