CLOCC Fall Quarterly Meeting "Physical Activity and Built Environment Strategies for Urban Communities" Set for Sept. 7

Meeting to be held at Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children's Hospital; Registration Now Open

CLOCC's Fall Quarterly Meeting will take place on Wednesday, September 7 at Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children's Hospital of Chicago. This meeting will take place during National Childhood Obesity Month and will feature a working focus on improving built environment and expanding the capacity for physical activity in Chicago communities. 

Discussions of strategy will take place in the context of CLOCC's Blueprint for Accelerating Progress in Childhood Obesity Prevention. Through keynote and panel presentations, participants will learn about national and local models for improving the physical environment and increasing physical activity. Two round-table discussion opportunities will then explore the challenges and opportunities related to ensuring that the best strategies are effectively and widely implemented on a local level.

The Quarterly Meeting main session will begin at 1:00 p.m. The meeting will be preceded by Intro to CLOCC (11:00 a.m.) and interest group sessions (Noon).

Join Us for a 5-4-3-2-1 Go!® Training on Friday, Sept. 23rd

Join the Consortium to Lower Obesity in Chicago Children on Friday, September 23,  for a free community training on 5-4-3-2-1 Go!®, a public education message containing recommendations for children and families to promote a healthy lifestyle. Developed in 2004 and launched as a mass-media campaign in 2009, 5-4-3-2-1 Go! has reached millions of individuals in communities throughout Chicago and beyond.

This free training will take place at the beautiful, newly-opened YMCA of Metro Chicago. The agenda will include: background information on the issue of childhood obesity; information about the creation and dissemination of 5-4-3-2-1 Go!; strategies for incorporating the message in your programming; opportunities for brainstorming and sharing ideas with colleagues and other community-based organizations.

Funding Opportunities    

Voices for Healthy Kids has made a commitment to support populations most adversely affected by childhood obesity and has integrated a broad-based health equity approach throughout the design of its initiative. The Strategic Campaign Funds Open RFA opportunity aims to fund strategic issue advocacy campaigns focused on helping kids grow up at a healthy weight through state, local, and tribal public policy campaigns. The duration of these grants will vary but will generally be one year or less. Awards of up to $90,000 are available. Applications must be specific to an individual campaign focused on changing public policy in one state, local, or tribal geographic location and must align with one of the Voices for Healthy Kids policy priorities. The deadline for application submission is Thursday, September 1, 2016 at 5:00 p.m.
