Chicago Department of Public Health Releases Report of Local Health Data

Recently, the Chicago Department of Public Health published Measuring Chicago's Health: Findingsa report constructed using data from the 2014 Healthy Chicago Survey.  This report is a first-of-its-kind for the City, and while the data focus on adult residents, the findings provide insight into the health status and health behavior of Chicago's 2.7 million residents. Data from the survey have served to influence the priorities of the Chicago's four-year health improvement plan, Healthy Chicago 2.0, which is due to be released next month.

Among the findings included in the report:
  • Approximately 49% of Chicago's residents reported using walking paths, parks, playgrounds or sports fields in their neighborhood for physical activity, while seven percent responded that their neighborhood does not have any of these facilities
  • 22.7% of adults reported eating three or more servings of vegetables daily
  • 18.3% of adults in Chicago reported not participating in any physical activity in the past month, with older residents, women, non-Hispanic blacks and Hispanics reporting the highest rates of inactivity
  • 28.8% of Chicago adults reported being obese
