Central Motive Power: Ford Powerstroke 6.0L, 6.4L, and 6.7L Training | April 28-May 1, 2015

Cost: $750

Ford Powerstroke diesel engine families since 2004 model year consist of the 6.0L, 6.4L and now the 6.7L. Technicians are now encountering challenges in the diagnosis of these engines on a variety of issues.

The Powerstroke 6.0L for the 2004 model year has been challenging due to an array of issues which have been addressed and are now communicated in training classes. High pressure ICP issues, Injector stiction, EGR and oil cooler failures have been and are the norm in the repair of these trucks. Instruction will include an approach in diagnosing this engine.

The 6.0L was replaced by the 6.4L which brought significant changes such as high pressure common rail piezoelectric injection system, low and high pressure turbochargers, enhanced dual EGR cooler assembly and the after-treatment system. Customer complaints on this truck include frequent regenerations, poor fuel economy and no start issues. Discussion will include use of service information and the use of the scan tool bidirectional controls available.

The Bosch piezoelectric common rail fuel injection system and a new Ford based V8 diesel engine is found in the newest of the Powerstroke engine family. The 6.7L engine brings a whole new redesigned engine with new diagnostic approaches provided by the service information. This Ford based powerplant includes a primary and secondary cooling system, a crankcase ventilation system, a EGR system which is subcooled by a cooler plus a turbocharger system with dual boost. Discussion will include these subsystems plus operation of the aftertreatment systems. The description and operation of the reductant (DEF fluid) SCR systems will be demonstrated.

Case studies will be covered on the Powerstroke 6.7L along with the information that Ford Installer Support offers. Engine hands on training will also be performed by technicians attending.

Come join us and learn Powerstroke tips and issues.
