Important Announcement from Toronto Fire Services

Residential Stoves and Ovens are strictly prohibited.

All concessionaires must remove any residential appliances located within their booth spaces by August 10, 2015.

Class K Fire Extinguishers

All Concessionaires with Exhaust Hoods or Ecologizers must have a Class K or a 40BC Fire Extinguishers located within your booth space (back of house) at all times!

It is mandatory that one is located near the pull station that activates the suppression system in the hood. A second extinguisher (2A10bc) is recommended for the front of the house by the cash register.

Extinguishers should be mounted on a wall with the top about 1 metre from the floor to ensure they're easily visible

Portable fire extinguishers are intended as a first line of defense to cope with fires of limited size. They are required even if the property is equipped with automatic sprinklers, water standpipe and hose, or other fixed protection equipment. Every concessionaire booth in the Food Building that has an Exhaust Hood or Temporary Exhaust Hood Venting System is mandated to have fire extinguishers regardless of any other type of fire protection provided.

Class K or a 40BC Fire Extinguishers are used for fires resulting from combustible cooking media (oils and fats). The Class K fire extinguishing agent is a potassium acetate based wet chemical that provides a cooling effect as well as saponification. In other words, it cools the burning liquid (the heat side of the fire triangle), and it puts a blanket of foam over the burning liquid blocking out the air (the oxygen side of the fire triangle).

Extinguishers will be inspected by the Toronto Fire Services, City of Toronto prior to the opening of the CNE.  All extinguishers must be certified and in good working order. Those without the required Extinguishers in their booths will not be allowed to open.  It is imperative that you obtain the necessary Extinguishers related to your concession operation.

CONCESSIONAIRES WITHOUT EXHAUST HOODS OR TEMPORARY EXHAUST HOOD ECOLOGIZERS MUST HAVE A CLASS B FIRE EXTINGUISHER.

CLASS B FIRE EXTINGUISHERS are used for flammable liquid fires located in Concession Booths (front of house and back of house). Extinguishers should be mounted on a wall with the top about 1 metre from the floor to ensure they're easily visible and accessible.

A second extinguisher (2A10bc) is recommended for the front of the house by the cash register.
