Utilizing ATVs to Expedite Inspection Process
By Brian Sprinkle, Technical Applications Supervisor

ATVs are very effective tools that help expedite our inspection process for UVM. We patrol thousands of miles of line annually for various contracts across the U.S., and ATV usage really comes into play in rural settings.

ATV use could potentially save our employees countless hours of walking lines. But, like all tools that we use, the true potential is only seen in the hands of qualified operators.

In order to properly train our employees on safe and effective ATV usage, CNUC has developed a comprehensive training program. Click here to learn more.

The newly developed CNUC emergency response team was deployed to South Carolina, North Carolina and Florida for storm restoration after Hurricane Matthew. Eighteen CUFs and one supervisor were pulled from various contracts.
Employees began their work Saturday, October 8 and completed work over the course of five days to help restore power to approximately 1.5 million residents.

On October 19, 2016, 15 forestry professionals attended a panel discussion on UVM at the Illinois Arborist Association Annual Conference and Trade Show.  During this session, the attendees filled out a written survey and answered questions raised during the discussion.

The meeting attendees indicated there will be a change in the future in which UVM will provide more benefits to society related to arboriculture and urban and rural forestry.
It was recognized by several that education, knowledge, research and development, and experience are vital to the future of the industry.

Perhaps, the most interesting survey and discussion discovery was the relative importance of UVM to the future of society's engagement with the environment.
