Second President Elect

Nominations for the position of Second President Elect are being accepted from the membership. Who will be the next President to lead our Association beginning June 2020? Nominations will be accepted by your corresponding regional representative on the Nominating Committee until December 15, 2017.   Please submit your nominations directly to your regional representative indicated below. 


Awards of Merit and Excellence
The COA has the honour each year of recognizing individuals who have made significant contributions to orthopaedic surgery in Canada and the care of Canadians. These awards are presented at the COA’s Annual Meeting by the President of the Association.  

Nominations for the Award of Merit and the Presidential Award for Excellence are being accepted from the membership until December 15, 2017.  

The Award of Merit is presented for excellence in at least two of the following areas:

  1. service to the profession in the field of medical organization as it relates to orthopaedic surgery specifically;
  2. service to the people of Canada in raising the standards of orthopaedic care;
  3. personal contributions to the advancement of orthopaedic research, orthopaedic education, health care organization or orthopaedic education of the public.
Nominees for the Award of Merit do not necessarily have to be a member of the COA.  

The Presidential Award for Excellence is presented for excellence in at least two of the following areas:

  1. service to the profession in the field of orthopaedic surgery;
  2. service to the people of Canada in raising the standards of orthopaedic care;
  3. personal contributions to the advancement of the art and science of orthopaedic surgery.
Nominees for the Presidential Award for Excellence must be a member in good standing of the COA.

Please carefully review the eligibility criteria for each award and nomination instructions prior to making your submission.  

Please submit your nominations before December 15, 2017 directly to your Nominating Committee regional representative as indicated above.

The Arthritis Society Scientific Advisory Committee (COA Rep)
The COA is seeking a member who has an interest in research to sit as the COA representative on The Arthritis Society’s scientific review board. This committee meets by teleconference approximately 3 times per year and typically involves the review of 1 or 2 grant applications. There is also one in-person meeting per year, usually held in Toronto. Please contact Doug Thomson for more information on this position.
