Wire Fraud Prevention
REALTOR® members and their clients throughout the country are experiencing the effects of wire fraud in real estate transactions. COAR has recieved several reports of people impacted here in Central Oregon. In response to this issue, your 2018 MLS Executive Committee has approved a Wire Fraud Advisory to be used with buyers and sellers in a real estate transaction to help make them aware of this issue and what to do if they are impacted. Although this form is not required it is highly recommended.

Attached is a copy of the PDF of this form . It is also available in the "Links & Docs" section of the MLS system. This form has also been sent to ZipForms to be loaded in the MLSCO library and should be available in a few weeks.

Please keep in mind that if you or your clients suspect that you have been victimized by wire fraud, IMMEDIATELY contact the FBI field office at 503-224-4181 and file a complaint online at www.ic3.gov . It is imperative that you make this call and file this report immediately. Once monies have left the country it is extremely difficult to get those funds back.

Additionally, ZipLogix is now offering Two-Factor Authentication as a free opt-in feature for zipForm Plus to protect your account and confidential information from unauthorized access. For more information, click here.

OAR Call for Action: Support Savings Accounts for First Time Home Buyers
G overnment Affairs

Oregon is facing an affordable housing crisis. Escalating home prices, high rents and income taxes, student loan debt, and wages that don't keep up with the cost of living are leaving many Oregonians to out of the housing market and hindering their ability to save money for a down payment.

That's why the Oregon Association of REALTORS® (OAR), among other prominent housing and related industry groups, support House Bill 4007 to create the First-Time Home Buyer Savings Account., to be introduced during the 2018 session beginning February 5.

Like the Oregon College Savings Plan established in 2001, the First Time Home Buyer Savings Account would allow individuals to take a state tax deduction for saving money towards a down payment on the purchase of their first home.

Today, COAR submitted a letter to the Bend City Council expressing support for continuing the public process around aligning the City of Bend's zoning map with its Comprehensive Plan. This alignment is a critical component of the City's UGB expansion, allowing Bend to utilize land more efficiently within the existing UGB - per state requirements - and supporting an increase in housing supply by removing costly barriers to developers.
