"And do not get drunk with wine, for that is debauchery, but be filled with the Spirit, addressing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs..." (Eph. 5:18-19 )
ENTERING A SEASON OF SPIRITUAL RENEWAL
Come, Holy Spirit!

Dear CCC Family!
It may seem that God kind of picked Cheri and me up and plopped us down right here in the middle of your wonderful congregation in Tierrasanta. But one thing I know - it was no accident! I sincerely believe that God has brought us together - pastor and people - for a very exciting season of renewal, empowerment, growth, and fruitfulness as we prepare our church for a Decade of Destiny! Over the past couple of weeks, our church has begun a renewed focus on the Person and the ministry of the Holy Spirit. Last Thursday morning, over thirty people from the combined Neighborhood Small Groups (Evergreen, La Jolla, Tierrasanta) met in our church conference room to begin a journey with me through my book and study guide: Called to High Adventure: A Fresh Look at the Holy Spirit and the Spirit-Filled Life ( CLICK ) . This past Sunday morning, I started a series of sermons entitled, The Spirit-filled Life; and after church about thirty people attended our new Discovery Center Class, Spirit-filled Life: Teaching, Discussion, and Hands-On Training. God is moving in powerful ways, and I urge you to jump in and be part of what He is doing. COME, HOLY SPIRIT!!!

Lots coming up in the weeks ahead! Just a few highlights:
  • Daylight Savings Time starts next Sunday, March 11, so set your clocks forward one hour before you go to bed on Saturday night. (Sunday is also Ed Wong's 100th birthday, with special luncheon after church. Happy Birthday, Ed!)
  • Easter Week events: Palm Sunday Service is March 25, Maundy Thursday Candlelight Communion Service is March 29 at 6:30pm; and Resurrection/Easter Sunday is April 1. Be thinking of people to invite and start praying for them now.

Cheri and I have been here with you for just over two months, and already we feel like you are family. God's love abounds! God is certainly up to something, and it's all good! I'm so grateful for Pastor Phil's laying a solid foundation in this church over the past twelve years. And I'm also grateful for the opportunity that the Lord - and you - have given me to partner with you in moving CCC into a glorious future that is as bright as the promises of God!

Love and blessings,
Pastor Clay

Raymond Yang Guest Speaker at Mandarin Fellowship
Raymond Yang and wife Rainbow were our special guests at Mandarin Ministry Fellowship this past Friday night. Raymond came to the Lord in 1989 in China. He and Rainbow were married in 1995 and have been actively serving the Lord together since then. Currently, Raymond is working on his Master of Divinity Degree at Talbot Seminary, and Rainbow is doing her Ph.D. in intercultural education at Biola. Their
primary ministry is equipping pastors in China to fulfill their ministries in their churches and families. They have two sons, Timothy and Caleb. Raymond's message was insightful and well-received.
HOW IMPORTANT IS IT THAT WE BE SPIRIT-FILLED CHRISTIANS, AND A SPIRIT-FILLED CHURCH?
The Apostle Paul writes in Ephesians 5:18, “Be filled with the Spirit.” The Greek NT verb for “be filled” is plēróō . It’s in the imperative mood, so it’s not an optional suggestion, but an authoritative command. It’s addressed to all the Christians, not just one. The verb is passive voice, as in “let the Spirit fill you,” and it is present tense, which connotes an ongoing filling, multiple fillings - continuously being filled by believing and appropriating what God has given us. We pull out the rocks and the weeds in the garden of our souls, and we let Him fill us. Paul is saying that we must allow the Holy Spirit to fill us because we cannot possibly live this Christian life effectively and victoriously without Him. The days are evil, and in order to make the most of every opportunity in these evil days, we must be filled with the Spirit!

COME, HOLY SPIRIT!

"SPIRIT-FILLED LIFE: TEACHING, DISCUSSION, and HANDS-ON TRAINING"

Pastor Clay is teaching a new class at 11:30AM on Sundays now, following our Worship Services and before lunch. The class coincides with Pastor Clay's new sermon series: "The Spirit-Filled Life." These sessions after church provide an excellent opportunity to discuss and clarify the focus of that morning's sermon, ask questions, grow deeper in the Spirit, make life applications, receive prayer, and get hands-on training in your life and ministry for Christ. See you there!
