Alla VILLICANA D'ANNIBALE GALLERIA D'ARTE di Arezzo, dal 24 marzo al 7 aprile 2012, si tiene la mostra Il West Secondo Civitelli dell'artista aretina di fama internazionale Fabio Civitelli. La mostra inaugurà sabato, 24 marzo ore 18:00, con la presenza dell'artista che autografa Il mio Tex. Sabato, il 31 marzo alle 18:00 ci sarà un secondo evento, con l'intervista di Fabio Civitelli a cura di Liletta Fornasari, formidabile critico, curatrice e storico dell'arte della città di Arezzo.
Un'occasione unica per apprezzare l'arte di uno dei più talentuosi disegnatori Bonelli apprezzato anche all'estero, attraverso un'antologica della sua produzione migliore.
Ne Il ritorno della Tigre nera, "racconto architettato da Nizzi, venato di atmosfere gotiche e orrorifiche che permette al disegnatore aretino di sbizzarrirsi con effetti speciali ... esplorando nuove forme espressive nelle quali la ricerca grafica si sposa alla perfezione con la leggibilità ...". Fabio Civitelli: «Ho usato dei vecchi pennelli tagliati a metà, che premevo sulla tavola con un tampone e che lasciavano un insieme di puntini irregolari, che poi ritoccavo con la penna a china, uniformandoli per avere delle belle sfumature. Questa volta la stampa ha reso molto bene l'effetto che intendevo ottenere e, infatti, le tavole con i notturni nella palude e le scene con zombie sono tra i miei migliori disegni in assoluto».
Per l'occasione verrà esposta anche la copertina originale ad acrilico del portfolio edito da Little Nemo.
Il mio Tex di Fabio Civitelli:
L'idea e la sceneggiatura de Il Mio Tex sono di Giovanni Battista Verger, appassionato giovane settantenne che ha già al suo attivo saggi d'autore come "Tex e il sogno continua" e i cinque volumi di "Cavalcando con Tex".
Il volume racconta attraverso 90 tavole inedite che hanno richiesto oltre 17 anni di preparazione, un suggestivo viaggio nell'epica western, da un Tex giovanissimo in compagnia della bella Lilith attraverso avventure e pericoli, ritraendolo a fianco dei grandi amici, indiani e non, e contrapposto ai grandi nemici. Un'autentica chicca visiva della quale Sergio Bonelli ebbe modo di scrivere " questo è uno di quei libri che si spiegano da soli, semplicemente sfogliandoli, dato che è costituito essenzialmente di disegni dinamici, suggestivi e talvolta persino poetici..."
Tex, il romanzo della mia vita
Si tratta di 12 gioielli realizzati in punta di pennino, "suggestive illustrazioni inedite che accompagnano l'autobiografia di Tex e che hanno il sapore antico di incisioni d'epoca, quasi una primitiva fotografia del Wild West americano" (cfr. Sergio Bonelli, "L'avventura di un ranger, raccontata da lui stesso" in Tex Willer. Il romanzo della mia vita).
Verranno esposte le 12 tavole che Fabio Civitelli ha realizzato ripercorrendo la vita del ranger: dalle prime sparatorie con Gunny Bill al regolamento di conti con Tom Rebo per vendicare l'uccisione del fratello Sam Willer, dalla prima apparizione di Mephisto nei panni di illusionista alle avventure del giovane Tex durante la guerra di secessione, dal duello con Tagua al giuramento sulla tomba di Lylith, dalle avventure sulle piste del Nord al fianco di Jim Brandon e Gros Jean allo scontro con il Signore del Male, Mephisto, e i suoi feroci Hualpai.
Per l'occasione verranno esposte anche le bozze della copertina.
A proposito di Fabio Civitelli:
Fabio Civitelli disegna Tex da ormai ventisette anni a partire cioè dal maggio 1985 quando realizzò su testi di Claudio Nizzi il lungo episodio "I due killers". Giungeva a Tex da un intenso periodo di apprendistato e crescita professionale che lo vedeva seguire la tradizionale trafile attraverso i fumetti sexy, gli albi di guerra, le riviste periodiche approdando infine al nolittiano Mister No che segnava il suo ingresso in Bonelli.
Il Tex di Civitelli viene a cercare i suoi spazi espressivi tra i maestri indiscussi del genere western: dal caposcuola Aurelio Galleppini ai grandi professionisti del nuovo Tex quali Giovanni Ticci e Fernando Fusco, Guglielmo Letteri, Erio Nicolò ed altri ancora.
Le tavole a fumetti di Civitelli sono tavole colte, ricche di riferimenti, mai improvvisate.
Ambienti, costumi, mezzi di trasporto e armi sono sempre frutto di un'accurata ricerca storica. La linea chiara che contraddistingueva lo stile degli esordi è andata via via arricchendosi di sapienti chiaroscuri. La natura gioca un ruolo da protagonista nelle tavole di Fabio: grazie all'instancabile opera del suo pennello, deserti arroventati, ovvero ammantati di oscurità, le acque del mare increspate dai battelli, o i picchi selvaggi delle montagne, prendono vita. La luce è la vera protagonista dell'arte di Civitelli: luce calda del deserto rovente, luce crepuscolare che attraversa i cieli nuvolosi del tramonto; luce livida emanata dal fuoco nella notte, luce che accende le acque increspate del mare, luce ancora che disegna giochi d'ombra sui visi dei protagonisti. Per quanto riguarda poi le inquadrature possiamo affermare che Civitelli non si ripete mai; vi sfidiamo a trovare in una delle sue storie, sempre piuttosto lunghe, un'inquadratura che si ripeta.
I pards di Civitelli ancora sono suoi e solo suoi: Tex con quella sua bellezza classica da eroe greco, con la luminosità del volto che non dà spazio ad incertezze tra bene e male; Kit Carson che ne è alter ego e contraltare ironico; Carson a cui gli anni trascorsi a vivere pericolosamente non hanno sottratto il sorriso un po' sornione alla Sean Connery. Civitelli, che ammira la sapienza antica e la fierezza del mondo indiano, non poteva non regalarci un Tiger Jack splendido e fiero; mentre Kit Willer è rappresentato come quell'autentico tizzone d'inferno, scattante ed inarrestabile, che in realtà è. Il mondo femminile infine ha una sua parte importante nell'iconografia civitelliana ed i personaggi, siano essi positivi o negativi, tradiscono una fierezza e sovente una bellezza senza pari.

At the VILLICANA D'ANNIBALE GALLERIA D'ARTE of Arezzo, from March 24 to April 7, 2012, will be on view the exhibit The West According to Civitelli, solo exhibition of Aretine artist of international fame Fabio Civitelli. The exhibit inaugurates Saturday, March 24, 2012 at 6pm with the presence of the artist who will autograph the catalogue, My Tex. Saturday, March 31 at 6pm there will be a second event with the interview of Fabio Civitelli by Liletta Fornasari, astute critic, curator and art historian of the city of Arezzo.
This exhibit is a unique occasion to appreciate the art of one of the most talented artists of Bonelli, appreciated internationally, through this anthology of his best production.
In "The return of the Tiger," story architectured by Nizzi, grainy with gothic atmosphere and horror which permit the Aretine artist & designer to satisfy his whims with special effects ... exploring new expressive forms where the graphic research is combined with the perfection of the readability..." Fabio Civitelli, "I used some old pens, cut in half, which I pressed to the table with a blotter, leaving a group of irregular dots, which I retouched with a pen of Indian ink, uniting them to create nice tone gradations. This time the print conveyed extremely well the effect that I intended to achieve and in fact the illustrations of the evening scenes on the swamps and the scenes with the zombies are some of my best drawings ever."
For the occasion of the exhibit, the original cover page created in acrylic from the portfolio edited by Little Nemo, will be on display.
My Tex of Fabio Civitelli:
The idea of the script of My Tex are of Giovanni Battista Verger, passionate, young seventy year old, who is well known as an author for "Tex and the dream continues" and the five volumes of "Riding with Tex," amongst others.
The volume includes 90 unpublished illustrations and took over 17 years of preparation to create, a suggestive adventure in epic Western, of an extremely young Tex in company with the beautiful Lilith through adventures and peril, shown next to his great friends and Indians, and opposed with his greatest enemies. An authentic rare visual gem of which Sergio Bonelli wrote "this is one of those books which explains itself by itself, simply turning the pages, since it is composed of principally dynamic drawings, suggestive e sometimes even poetic..."
Tex, the story of my life:
The story includes 12 gems realized pen point, "suggestive unpublished illustrations which accompany the autobiography of Tex and which have the antique flavor of vintage prints, almost a primitive photograph of the American Wild West" (cfr. Sergio Bonelli, "L'avventura di un ranger, raccontata da lui stesso" in Tex Willer. Il romanzo della mia vita / cfr. On display will be 12 illustrations which Fabio Civitelli created retracing the life of the ranger: from the first shoot outs with Gunny Bill to getting even with Tom Rebo, revenge for the killing of his brother Sam Willer, from the first appearance of Mephisto in the clothes of the magician, to the adventures of the young Tex during the Civil War, to the duel with Tagua at the taking of the oath on the tomb of Lylith, to the adventures on the scope of the North next to the Jim Brandon and Big Jean at the clash with Signore del Male, Mephisto, and his ferocious Hualpai.
For the exhibit, the studies for the cover will also be on display.
About Fabio Civitelli:
Fabio Civitelli has been drawing Tex since the age of twenty-seven, since May of 1985 when he realized the long episodes of "The two killers" for the texts of Claudio Nizzi. He arrived to Tex after an intense period of apprenticeship and professional growth which he saw follow the traditional procedure through sexy comic strips, comics about war, periodic magazines, and he arrived even at the "nolittiano" Mister No, which marked his entry into Bonelli.
The Tex of Civitelli is inspired by the expressive spaces found amongst the masters of Western genre: from leader Aurelio Galleppini to the great professionals of the new Tex including Giovanni Ticci and Fernando Fusco, Guglielmo Letteri, Erio Nicolò and others.
The comic illustrations of Civitelli are cultured illustrations, rich in references, never improvised.
Environments, traditions, vehicles and arms are always fruit of accurate historical research. This was the light line that distinguished the style of his debut and along the way only became richer of his masterly shading and chiaroscuro. Nature plays the role of protagonist in the illustrations of Fabio: thanks to the untiring work of his pen, red hot deserts, or rather blankets of darkness, the waters of the sea ripples from battles, or the fierce peaks of the mountains, come to life. Light is the true protagonist of the art of Civitelli: warm light of the scorching desert, twilight which travels across the cloudy skies of sunset; pale light that emanates from the fire of the night, light which illuminates the ripples waters of the sea, light which casts shadows on the faces of the protagonists. In regards to the compositions we can affirm that Civitelli never repeats himself; we challenge you to find in one of his stories, usually lengthy, to find a composition which repeats itself.
The partners of Civitelli are still his and only his: Tex with his classical beauty of a Greek hero, with a luminosity in the faces that does not allow space for uncertainties between good and bad; Kit Carson who is alter ego and ironic counter alter; Carson, of whom the years living dangerously haven't subtracted a bit the crafty Sean Connery like smile. Civitelli, who admires the antique knowledge and the proud spirit f the Indian world, couldn't not gift us a proud and splendid Tiger Jack; while Kit Willer is represented like that authentic ember of hell, quick and unrelenting, which he is in reality. The female world has an important part in the "Civitellian" iconography and characters, whether they be positive or negative, which reveal a pride and beauty of no equal.
