Issue Number 12 - January 2017

Contentment can be defined as having a mental awareness of thoughts and feelings that are positive about your life situation.  This harmonious balance is a connection to the present moment that leaves you not wanting more or less of something or longing for a change. This emotional state of being at ease and free from worry about the future or criticizing the past yields contentment.  The physical body when content will be free of pain and discomfort.  This peaceful satisfaction is a choice that you can make each minute of every day. Look around and connect with the incredible world that we live in. Take a deep breath and relax into your life. "Practicing gratitude protects us from our own pettiness and smallness and keeps us centered in the joy and abundance of our own life". Today we can be aware of being rooted in contentment.

This is such a great way to be a positive influence on others and to be truthful to yourself. Why is it so hard to be content in each moment?  Consider if any of these reasons are causing you discontent:

1. You are afflicted with the inability to rejoice with others and their success. You envy your friends when they get a bonus or go on a trip to a beautiful place.
2. You want to win at all costs no matter who gets trampled in the process.  This example includes perfectionism and the inner drive that all that you do has to be perfect in the view of society, especially friends and with yourself.
3.You constantly blame bad circumstances or use excuses to justify why you are behaving so poorly.  This choice of going through life seeing everything as flawed is a complete lack of gratitude.  You are not willing to take personal responsibility for your actions and words.
4. You have angry outbursts when your expectations are not met.  Now you're taking everyone around you down too.

Benjamin Franklin declared, "Contentment makes a poor man rich and discontentment makes a rich man poor."  Now is the time to analyze what is driving you and how you are affecting those around you. Stop and feel completely the fullness of being present. To live in the moment immersed in contentment is a way to live that gives you direction and purpose.
Anytime it occurs to you, relax your shoulders down and sit up tall.  Breathe in deeply because you have the ability to do so.  Smile and think of the people you love and who love you.  Feel deep in your heart that you matter. Be content now.
