The Weekly Word
FEBRUARY 26, 2017

The portion of Matthew's gospel appointed for this Sunday includes the story of the Transfiguration where Jesus' identity as the Son of God is confirmed to Peter, James and John.  A bright overshadows them, and from that cloud comes a voice declaring: "This is my Son, the Beloved; with him I am well pleased; listen to him."  Those same words were heard by those who were present at Jesus' baptism, and now they are heard by 3 of Jesus' disciples as time is growing near to Jesus' death.

I wonder what it would be like to pretend I was present for such metaphysical sign from God, perhaps on a daily basis.  Would I live differently?  Would my priorities in life change?  In what ways would I strive with every ounce of my strength to be a faithful, compassionate, and loving servant of God as a disciple and an apostle of Jesus Christ?  These are certainly questions I intend to ponder today and in the days to come, seeking to follow the path that Jesus invites me to follow along with Him.
