Read ME
A statewide summer reading program with a Maine twist

Read ME gets Maine's adults all reading the same books-by Maine authors and recommended by a Maine author, no less.

Monica Wood.
The two titles (one fiction- Unknown Caller by Debra Spark, one nonfiction-The Moth: 50 True Stories ) by new or lesser-known Maine authors have been recommended by Monica W ood  (The On e-in-a-Million Boy, When We Were the Kennedys, Any Bitter Thing, Ernie's Ark).

The books are available at CPL.  The
season will culminate in a large public event (date and location TBD) where the authors will be interviewed live in front of an audience.

reaming in Cuban by  Cristina García
C ristina García's acclaimed book is the haunting, bittersweet story of a family experiencing a country's revolution and the revelations that follow. The lives of Celia del Pino and her husband, daughters, and grandchildren mirror the magical realism of Cuba itself, a landscape of beauty and poverty, idealism and corruption

Wed, August 23, 2pm - 4pm
Casco Public Library

"Havana Red" by Leonardo Padura Fuentes
The first of the Havana quartet featuring Inspector Mario Conde, a tropical Marlowe. A young transvestite in a beautiful red dress is found strangled in a Havana park. Conde's investigation into a violent murder exposes a stifling, corrupt society, a Cuban reality where nothing is what it seems. A dark and fascinating world of men and women born in the revolution who live without dreaming of exile and seek their identity in the midst of disaster.

9:00 p.m.
Loon Echo Land Trust and Southworth Planetarium, along with Casco and Raymond Libraries, invite you to a relaxing evening under the summer sky, and if conditions allow, shooting stars!
The Perseids Meteor Shower is always a favorite due to the warm summer temperatures. At its peak, this shower seems to
originate from the constellation Perseus, giving rise to the name Perseids. In between shooting stars, gaze through telescopes, high powered binoculars and get familiar with "apps" for smart phones and tablets which make learning about the night sky even more fun!

Make sure to bring a comfortable chair, bug spray, drinks and snacks. Meet at the summit at 9:00 PM (Come earlier if you want to view the sunset). Please park in the "Ev
ent Parking" area to the right of the summit. Approximately 3 hours.
