Municipal Environmental Compliance

A CT ROAD SCHOLAR PROGRAM

ELECTIVE WORKSHOP

This course introduces environmental management for Connecticut public works facilities. It discusses the permits, plans, inspections and training for aboveground storage tanks (ASTs), underground storage tanks (USTs), the Industrial Stormwater General Permit, the MS4 Stormwater General Permit, EPCRA, hazardous waste, transfer station compliance and air permits for boilers and emergency engines.

Who Should Attend

This program is designed for those municipal public works and engineering staff responsible for environmental compliance in their agencies.

Directors of Public Works, Town Engineers, Highway Superintendents and Foremen are encouraged to attend.

Course Instructor

Plato Doundoulakis is the Principal Scientist at Atlas Environmental. He has more than 30 years of experience in environmental and petroleum industry consulting. Plato is a certified Class A/B operator, a Licensed Environmental Professional and a Certified Hazardous Materials Manager.

Kristin Doundoulakis has over 20 years experience in environmental projects in several states with a focus on Connecticut municipal compliance. Kristin has managed environmental compliance and permitting for the Town of Groton's Department of Public Works for the past 12 years.

Amanda Ryan, Municipal Stormwater Educator-NEMO, will discuss MS4 permit details.

Learning Objectives

Upon completion of this class, participants will be able to:

Discuss different requirements for ASTs versus USTs.

Determine if you need to comply with air regulations.

Conduct a Transfer Station self-audit.

Understand what is required during year two of the MS4 Permit.
