Soft Skills Curriculum

"Skills to Pay the Bills: Mastering Soft Skills for Workplace Success," is a curriculum developed by ODEP focused on teaching "soft" or workforce readiness skills to youth, including youth with disabilities. Created for youth development professionals as an introduction to workplace interpersonal and professional skills, the curriculum is targeted for students ages 14 to 21 for both in-school and out-of-school environments. The program is comprised of modular, hands-on, engaging activities that focus on six key skill areas: communication, enthusiasm and attitude, teamwork, networking, problem solving and critical thinking, and professionalism.

Teaching Soft Skills

Here are some other online resources to help educators integrate soft skills instruction.

From the Florida Department of Education
The Florida Department of Education's Educator's Toolkit on Career and Education Planning provides classroom activities, lesson plans, and related web-based resources. Each module includes a description, lesson plans with student handouts, recommended websites for additional information, and a glossary. Please note: Modules in this toolkit are aligned to Florida's Standards, which have similarities to California Standards.

Can the grant pay for out-of-state travel for students to attend CTSO events?

Yes, however, send Bryan Baker an email requesting out of state travel. Include the details and the reason there was no local state equivalent you could attend. Keep a copy of the email on file for your records.

Bryan Baker's email address is: [email protected]

I'm looking for a crosswalk of the CTE standards for ALL academic subjects.

Here are some links to help locate academic standards for all industry sectors.

Go to CTEIG website, CTEIG Resource Page , scroll down to “Other Resources” and click on the link California Model Curriculum Standards by Industry Sector . This will take you to the CDE website to the CTE Model Curriculum Standards. The Academic Alignment Matrix is at the end of each Industry Sector. The table of contents will have a page number for each Academic Alignment Matrix.
Campaign Video
Advance CTE’s newest video provides an overview of how Career Technical Education (CTE) prepares learners for their futures while closing the skills gap for employers across the country. Use this video with critical stakeholders to continue to combat false perceptions of what CTE is and who it is for. This video is designed to help you make the case for CTE in your community and demonstrate the benefits of today's CTE! We hope that you will watch and share!
