It might not have been as throttling as an 18-0, 19-4 or 6-1 postseason victory, but Capistrano Valley Christian learned rather abruptly that in the playoffs, one-run victories work just as well

Congratulations Elementary students and families for completing our first annual SQUIRM Reading Program. We set lofty goals for each of our grade levels and we want to share the amazing results of our four week program!
Our school goal was to read 102,190 minutes. Our next challenge level was to read 150,000 minutes. OUR STUDENTS READ A TOTAL OF 181,173 MINUTES. WHAT AN ASTOUNDING SUCCESS! Our students and families made reading a priority for the month of May and turned TV and computer games off. This is just the beginning of a life-long enjoyment and passion for reading!
Students who met their weekly goals were given a prize. Prizes included a SQUIRM bracelet, dog tag necklace, pencil, and bookmark. In addition, Mrs. Hannum called homes in the evenings and when 'caught' SQUIRMING, students were given prizes the next morning at flag ceremony.
The highest readers in each classroom were:
JK - Brayden (850 mins), K - Kate (2479 mins), 1 - Kai (1512 mins), 2 - Ben (1615 mins), 3 - Kevin (1814 mins), 3 - Kelsie (1525 mins), 4 - Mark (2445 mins), 5 - Jacob (3276 mins), 5 - Kylie (2520 mins), 6 - Andrew (4116 mins), 6 - Nick (4732 mins)
These students will be going out to lunch at Ricardo's Restaurant and will also receive a free meal certificate at El Adobe Restaurant.
The class with the highest percentage of minutes read was: Mrs. Mazurki's Kindergarteners. They will be rewarded with a Pinata Party.
The top three readers in the school were: Nick T. (4732 mins), Andrew A. (4116 mins), and Jacob H. (3276 mins). These students are receiving Barnes and Noble gift certificates to purchase books to continue their reading momentum!
Elementary students will be rewarded with classroom treats and surprises on Thursday, May 31st from 1:00 - 2:30 p.m. by Mrs. Hannum and Coach Zach Brogdon. THANK YOU AGAIN FOR YOUR TERRIFIC SUPPORT OF SQUIRM.

OC Sheriff Hutchens Visits 3rd Grade
| |
Back in September, Mrs. Yuhasz and her 3rd grade students, committed to "adopting" OC Sheriff Sandra Hutchens as their community leader. The students pray for Sheriff Hutchens, her family and her staff every day. They have written her letters throughout the year and have been pleased when the Sheriff writes back! Recently Mrs. Yuhasz invited the Sheriff to come to CVCS for a visit and to meet the class. All were excited when she accepted the invitation, and anxiously awaited her arrival on the morning of May 30th. Sheriff Hutchens spoke to the children telling them how she loves getting their letters and pictures in the mail. She expressed her appreciation for their daily prayers and how much that means to her. She also encouraged the students to be good citizens helping the officers make Orange County a safe place to live! The children then recited the 23rd Psalm for a Police Officer and prayed a Police Officer's Prayer over Sheriff Hutchens. After a time of student thanks and appreciation, along with questions and answers, everyone enjoyed a morning treat of...what else?! Coffee and donuts!

Summer Math Refresher Course
| |

Over the summer many students forget what they have learned the previous year. As a result, many students spend the first few weeks of school playing "catch up" trying to re-master concepts they have already been taught. The Summer Math Refresher Course will give your child an extra boost, as he/ she will review all concepts learned during the previous school year and receive an introduction to the California State Standards in math for the upcoming year. The course is for all incoming 5th-7th grade students. Classes meet for four days, for one hour each day. Any questions, please contact Mrs. Jennings at rjennings@cvcs.org >>Registration Form |
