Participant Maddie Continues to Shine
"CWEE saved my life." Finding herself without any support, Maddie felt lost before coming to CWEE. When she first arrived at CWEE, Maddie was nervous - she didn't know what to expect. Maddie quickly began to feel at home. She felt supported and heard for the first time, and says CWEE helped her discover that she
can  be strong and successful. At CWEE, Maddie found her voice. She strengthened her communication and advocacy skills and was invited to attend the Family, Career, and Community Leaders of America's National Leadership Conference. On top of this, Maddie has been a shining star at her internship at WorkLife Partnership, and will be promoted to a full time permanent position in July. Way to go, Maddie!

CWEE Shares Trauma-Informed Approach

On May 18th, CWEE's Clinical Specialist, Anna, provided a training on trauma and trauma informed organizations to Denver's agency for Human Rights and Community Partnerships. The training included learning on forms of acute and systemic trauma, the impact of trauma on communities, and the core principles and practices of trauma-informed organizations. CWEE is proud to have a trauma-informed approach to our work and a bilingual clinical specialist on staff!
Congratulations to longtime Director of Operations Jeannie Moffett on her retirement. We wish you the best, and thank you for your 11 years of incredible service and friendship to CWEE!
Introducing CWEE's Leadership Council

Pictured here: Keelyn Hutchison, Julia Doria, Tiara Fry, Katie Borthwick, Shannon Gray, Danielle Berz and Melissa Butler. Not pictured: Mallary Lerner, Barbara Nett, Kati O'Hara, Rosita Padilla, Carrie Patterson, Esteban Romero, Gina Seeley, Jackie Starks, Anne Stoffel, and Ruth Weirich (read our members' bios  here ).

Since 2015 CWEE has relied on the exceptional talents of the business professionals who make up the Leadership Council to extend CWEE's reach within the community, further engage CWEE's corporate partners, and promote its mission and events.

This dynamic group of leaders represents a diverse cross section of Metro area industries. Members utilize their skills and expertise to leverage resources in support of CWEE's low-income families.

This year, the Leadership Council, ably led by Chair Shannon Gray, set itself a goal of raising $8,000 in funds to scholarship two participants through CWEE's comprehensive Career Readiness program. The Council has surpassed its goals and wants to raise the bar for next year!

In FY18 the Leadership Council hosted professional clothing drives for CWEE's First Impressions Boutique, collected over 250 pounds of hygiene products for CWEE participants, hosted a Patio Party for 50 guests, and secured sponsorships, auction items and wine for CWEE's upcoming Harvesting Opportunities fundraiser on October 11th. Next up for the Leadership Council: a Clothing Sale on July 21st (see sidebar for details).

CWEE and its Board of Directors are grateful to the Leadership Council for their tireless efforts on CWEE's behalf.

CWEE's Leadership Council is currently recruiting new members for the FY19 Council. If you are interested in more information, please contact CWEE's Director of Development Baret Walker

Did you know?

Since July, CWEE has helped more than 200 people gain employment with an average wage of $12.16. That's almost $2 above minimum wage! The majority of these positions are also full-time and offer benefits.
CWEE Celebrates 8 HSE Graduates!
With its longtime partner The Learning Source, CWEE is proud to offer an in-house classroom where students can study and test for their High School Equivalency diplomas. Recently, CWEE celebrated some incredible participants who did just that! Congratulations to all of our CWEE graduates who have worked so diligently to reach their goals!
Volunteer & Partner Appreciation 2018
Thank you to all who joined CWEE for our Volunteer & Partner Appreciation Breakfast in April. Congratulations to our CWEE award winners: Denver Rescue Mission, Jean Townsend, 24-7 Intouch, Joe Scancarello, OppenheimerFunds, and Gina Seeley! We are so grateful for all of the hard work you do for CWEE. You are all true CWEE champions!
CWEE Day at the Capitol
CWEE participants and staff visited the Colorado State Capitol in April to advocate for the issues that matter most to us: employment, housing, transportation, and gender equity. After a quick overview on how to talk to elected officials, everyone broke up into small groups to talk to their Senators and Representatives.  It was a powerful and inspiring experience for all involved!  Many thanks to Representative Leslie Herod for greeting CWEE participants and staff and encouraging everyone to stay active and involved in our democracy.
