PACE Comes to Fresno and Eureka

Fresno PACE opened its doors on August 1 and is the ninth PACE organization to begin operating in California. Its service area covers all of Fresno County and will bring much needed care to the community's seniors.

About 3,500 seniors in Fresno County fit the profile of a PACE patient, and the program hopes to serve up to 400 of them. The center is located on the ground floor of the Hotel Californian which now consists of low-income housing for seniors. Read More on Fresno PACE.

Redwood Coast PACE opened its doors in Eureka on September 1. It is the tenth PACE organization to begin operating in California and is California's first rural PACE program. Redwood Coast PACE serves areas of Humboldt County including Eureka, Trinidad, Blue Lake, Carlotta and Scotia. Read More on Redwood Coast PACE.

PACE Rate Restoration Included in Budget Plan

The state budget plan passed and signed in June includes a provision to help stabilize rates for PACE.

This provision will take effect April 1, 2015 and will require Medi-Cal capitation payments to be set at no lower than 95 percent of the fee-for-service equivalent, or upper payment limit (UPL).

The provision is very important to PACE organizations. Funding for PACE has been systematically cut over the past six years due to budget pressures. Following four years of flat rates, PACE organizations sustained back-to-back reductions in 2012 and 2013, while also absorbing the impact of budget-driven program changes in Medi-Cal enacted in 2011 and 2012, such as the reductions in IHSS hours and across-the-board Medi-Cal provider rate reductions.

Partnership Increases Elder Care Services in West Contra Costa County

Center for Elders' Independence (CEI) partnered with Guardian Adult Day Health Center to increase services to local seniors.  This new partnership will mean that PACE participants can take advantage of health and therapeutic services closer to home at Guardian's Adults Day Health Center and still benefit from full medical care at CEI's other facilities. Read more.

PACE and the Coordinated Care Initiative

Did you know that PACE is a health plan option under the Coordinated Care Initiative (CCI)?  Under the CCI, beneficiaries will have the option to choose a Cal MediConnect plan, a Medi-Cal plan for long-term services and supports, or PACERead More.

CCI has begun in several PACE counties. Early implementation information indicates that beneficiaries are selecting PACE as their health plan option and these referrals are being transmitted to PACE plans. PACE organizations continue to face the challenge of obtaining accurate contact information in order to conduct assessments on the beneficiaries who have expressed an interest in PACE.
