One of San Diego's most cherished downtown icons, the 1927 California Theatre, was unanimously approved for demolition at Tuesday's, April 4 City Council hearing.
SOHO started off the public testimony with a presentation given by Executive Director Bruce Coons, Board Member Kiley Wallace, and Historic Resources Specialist Amie Hayes, about the history of the theatre and the legal reasons why the demolition should not be supported. In addition to those that ceded their time to SOHO's presentation, many others testified as well, including other SOHO board members and the larger public. Thank you to all the San Diegans who took time to call and write the Council and to those who could come down to City Hall on a Tuesday in support of this historical resource.
We will keep you up to date as this moves forward. Thank you again.
