Moving Forward with MEDA: Catalyzing Change in Eating Disorder Treatment

MEDA’s 24 th National Conference will take place on April 12-13, 2019 at The Marriott Newton . MEDA welcomes proposals from clinicians, researchers, educators, advocates, and all other interested persons. The 2019 MEDA Conference will explore in detail the most recent knowledge related to the field of eating disorders. We seek cutting edge treatment approaches. More specifically, the conference will focus upon bringing together the newest and most creative approaches to treatment and applying them with flexibility to those who are struggling.

d.    Medical complications as a result of an eating disorder

a.    Binge Eating Disorder 
b.    Avoidant Restrictive Food Intake Disorder
c.    Autism Spectrum Disorder
d.    Sensory Integration
e.    Attachment Disorders

g.    Internal Family Systems/Family Systems
h.    Non-traditional treatments (e.g. art, music)

3)   NUTRITIONAL
a.    Diet fads (Keto, Whole 30, Paleo, “clean eating”, gluten- free, all-organic, raw, etc.)
b.    Intuitive Eating
c.    Working with clients with strict dietary restrictions or food allergies (celiac, diabetes, veganism, macrobiotic)

4)   SOCIAL/CULTURAL
a.    Males and eating disorders
b.    Insurance (barriers, guardianship, patient’s rights)
c.    Size activism, weight stigma, Health at Every Size 
d.    Gender identity and eating disorders 
e.   The role of culture/ethnicity
f.   Relationships with parents, partners, families

Keynotes will be 1 hour and 30 minutes to 2 hours in length and workshops will be 1 hour and 15 minutes in length, which includes 10-15 minutes for questions. Expect to present in front of an audience of 70 to 100 people. Presenters will receive complementary admission for both days. Additional compensation is not available . All speakers will be expected to adhere to the Conference Code of Ethics. The MEDA Conference attracts around 300 people annually. A majority of the conference attendees are clinically savvy and enjoy presentations that challenge them academically and emotionally. Your presentation will work best if it is:

  • Personal – Speak from your past experiences as a professional (whether academic or clinical). Present as your authentic self!

  • Interactive – Attendees enjoy collaboration and appreciate the opportunity to engage with the content being presented. Feel free to explore varying mediums such as: PowerPoint, Prezi, didactic, role play, experiential, case studies.

  • OrganizedConference attendees value thoughtful preparation. We encourage you to stay within the scope of your objectives to provide in-depth content and engage with your audience.

  • Honest – Conference attendees appreciate authentic self-expression from presenters. Please feel free to share personal experiences related to your presentation.

  • Clear and Concise – Please be aware of your designated presentation length and include time at the end for any questions or comments. We want to ensure that the conference timeline runs according to schedule.
