This will be the third round of this fellows program to support research that will inform efforts to secure equitable funding of public schools across the country. Under the leadership of Dr. María "Cuca" Robledo Montecel, IDRA President & CEO, the program was established by IDRA to honor the memory of IDRA founder, Dr. José Angel Cárdenas.
IDRA will select one or more fellows who will dedicate themselves to a period of intense study and writing in school finance. We will hold a symposium that includes the release of the fellow's program paper. The paper and findings will be published in the symposium proceedings and disseminated to the education research and policymaker community.
"Forty-five years ago, IDRA was founded by Dr. Cárdenas to defend all children and their right to an excellent and equitable education. It was as clear then as it is today that we cannot afford an excellent system for some and a minimally adequate system for the rest. Fair funding is essential to assuring that all children have access to quality education."
The José A. Cárdenas School Finance Fellow(s) will be selected for a defined period beginning in early 2019. Fellows will receive a stipend of up to $20,000 to include cost of release time, travel and IDRA one-month residency. IDRA will provide office space during the residency.
To be eligible, applicants must be:
a doctoral candidate or completed doctoral training by time of selection, or
an a cademic candidate reflecting scholarly experience in conducting school finance or related research, or
a practitioner with an equivalent level of academic/professional achievement.
