Call for Input:  Proposed Amendments to
Anti-Money Laundering Model Rules
Please provide submissions by Monday, March 5, 2018.

The Law Society of Alberta is seeking input from lawyers on proposed amendments to the Federation of Law Societies of Canada’s anti-money laundering Model Rules. The proposed amendments relate to:
  • the “no cash” model rule
  • client identification and verification requirements
  • trust accounting provisions

Reminder:  File Trust Accounting Annual Reports Before March 31
This is a reminder that Trust Accounting annual filings (Law Firm Self-Report, Accountant’s Report or Electronic Data Upload) are due by March 31 . New Online System for Court Transcript Orders
On February 5, 2018, Transcript Management Services (TMS) moved to a new online ordering system for court transcript orders. This system allows clients to order and pay for transcripts, as well as track their orders, receive copies and receive applicable refunds, all online.

As of March 29, 2018, there will be a single TMS office located in Calgary. The Edmonton and Red Deer TMS offices will be permanently closed.

New Interest Rate Set
The interest rate for awards under section 4(2) of the Judgment Interest Act has been set at 0.87 per cent for the period January 1, 2018 to December 31, 2018.
Notice from Alberta Crown Prosecution Service
Electronic disclosure is now available in Edmonton, Calgary, Hinton, Slave Lake, Red Deer, and Fort McMurray. In April, it will be implemented in the Calgary Rural and Regional Response Office. If you are registered for electronic disclosure, you will have the same access to electronic disclosure for files in those locations.

Once you have completed the registration process for electronic disclosure you will be able to submit your request for disclosure online and receive disclosure online.


Registration may be submitted at any Alberta Crown Prosecution Service office in the province.
