Grounds Clean-Up Day is Sunday, August 7. Please help us keep the Calvary grounds beautiful by joining us in clearing up unwanted plants and cleaning up the property in preparation for the fall worship and education programs. Clean-up begins after both the 9:30am and the 10:30am worship services. Bring whatever tools you can, as well as a cheerful heart and a willing body. Senior warden Daren Grayton will supply the pizza.

Buildings and Grounds inquiries or needs. During our transition time since Fr. Jason's departure, we are working on sorting out who does what, and whom to contact, with all issues connected with the building and grounds. Recently, the junior warden Duane Lewis has been receiving many of the requests for repair and maintenance. This will no longer be the case. Duane, as junior warden, will be primarily a "people's warden," as is traditional in many churches.
There are a number of companies and individuals who do various kinds of work at Calvary, and we are in the process of making the communications pipeline more transparent and the process more efficient. So for the next few weeks, there will be a sign-up sheet in Hannaford Hall, where you may write down any minor maintenance or repairs needed.
In addition, for now, Joanna will be the contact person for maintenance and repairs, until a more permanent process is put in place. Call the church (513.861.4437) or, in emergencies, her cell (859.803.0665) if you do not already know who to call.

Please help stock St. Andrew's Pantry with small jars of peanut butter and canned fruit and vegetables during July.

  From the Interim Rector:
This is God Calling

I love summer! The Midwest July brings the lush green of the region, the trilling songbirds, raucous katydids, sultry air and majestic thunderstorms, and best of all, that icon of summer here-fireflies. Or lightning bugs-those little garden flashlights.
I love the warm (okay, hot) muggy days of summer that wrap around me like a blanket. I love the balmy evenings when the lightning bugs and the stars twinkle together. And to be truthful, I like the lightning bugs even more than the Friday night Reds fireworks display. Fireflies are God's own fireworks display.
Summer, with its clear cozy nights, is also the time to look up and wonder at the stars. My interest in astronomy has only increased my sense of wonder as I've learned about the amazing properties of stars.
Some stars spin rapidly and "leak" radiation as they spin. Here on earth, scientists used to wonder whether these pulses of energy were actually messages from other inhabitants of the universe, calling us. "Hello, is anyone out there?" Now we know better about what we now call "neutron stars," but I still think they are messages-messages from God.
At ground level, the lightning bugs remind me of my phone that blinks whenever I have a message waiting for me. It is as if the bugs are saying, "This is a message from God." When I am tempted to complain about the summer heat, the message may be, "This is God calling. Have you checked the weather on Venus lately? The current temperature there is 900 degrees and it's raining sulfuric acid. Be thankful you don't live there!"
But most of the time, the message is simply, "This is God calling. Come and meet me."
God calls us all, not just through lightning bugs and neutron stars but in the everyday blessings of life which come from God, and especially in the blessing of Jesus who, while on this earth, probably himself looked up at the stars and looked around at the bugs and thanked God for these simple blessings.
God loves sending messages to us and getting messages from us. God only asks that we keep the line open with a minimum of busy signals. Have you checked your messages lately?

Prayer
O God, the protector of all who trust in you, without whom nothing is strong, nothing is holy: Increase and multiply upon us your mercy; that, with you as our ruler and guide, we may so pass through things temporal, that we lose not the things eternal; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.

See you at Church!
