PROPHETS AND MYSTICS CLASS UPDATE
(Every Sunday in Advent at noon in the Burton Room):  The first class meeting was very well-attended!  We had a very open and profound group sharing about the spiritual experiences we've had in our own lives.   This Sunday, Robb will share some stimulating ideas on the biblical concept of prophethood, and we'll have plenty of time to share our thoughts and feelings about what we learn.  Come to share, or just listen!  All are welcome.

Young Adult Gathering 2016: God's Glory Shines Through Us
Join us for our annual diocesan young adult gathering -- a space for reconnecting with God, friends, and your own story. This year, we will explore creativity as an expression of God's glory in our midst. We will have opportunities to engage in the art of improv, visual art, music making, poetry, and whatever creative gifts you have to share. We invite you to join us and bring your playful and creative spirit with you. We will be joined by artists, musicians, and improv actors who will lead us in a variety of workshops and help us explore our own creative gifts. We will also spend time in prayer and reflection on how God is made manifest in us. Come ready to play!

The retreat happens at the Procter Center in London, Ohio. We begin on Friday night, December 16th at 5 pm and will conclude on Saturday, December 17th arou nd 3 pm. This retreat is free for young adults
ages 18-35. But you must register here to let us know you are coming:

Please remember to pledge
your commitment to the church for 2017. The year 2017 will be an important year for Calvary both spiritually and financially. You will be in the middle of a search for your next rector, and the search process and a possible move for the priest will require that funds be put aside. Also, it would be wise for the church to be able to show to all potential candidates that it is vibrant and healthy financially. A financially viable church is a good sign to attract a good candidate for rector.

We also need your pledge to create a working budget. So far,  34% of the membership have sent in their pledges, including 82% of last year's pledgers.   If you have already submitted your pledge, we thank you! If you have not yet done so, we hope that you will prayerfully consider pledging to your church and helping us to be the lively and life-giving community that is Calvary Episcopal Church.

Profile Committee Members sought. Nomination or application forms for the Profile Committee, as well as a job description of that job, are now available in Hannaford Hall. If you are interested in being part of this committee, or know of someone who would like to be considered for this position, please fill out a form and leave it in the box outside the church office. The Vestry will appoint Profile Committee members, based on the diversity of skills that are needed to create the church's profile.

Vestry and Convention Delegate nominations now being accepted. Nomination forms for Vestry and for Delegate to next year's Diocesan Convention (to be held in November 2017 in Cincinnati) are now available in Hannaford Hall. Job descriptions are also available. Elections will be held at the Annual Meeting on Sunday, January 22, 2017. Nominations will be accepted until around January 10. If you are interested or would like to nominate another person who you believe will be a good fit, please fill out a nomination form and leave it in the box outside the church office.

Notice of Annual Meeting.
The Annual Meeting of Calvary Episcopal Church will take place on Sunday, January 22, 2017 following the 10:30 am service.

Elections for Vestry members and Diocesan Convention delegates
will be held at the parish Annual Meeting on January 22. If you are interested in becoming a vestry member or a delegate, please contact Joanna or Daren Grayton (Senior Warden). Nomination forms will be available soon.

Profile and Search Committee
members now being sought. We are seeking members to serve on the Profile Committee (to begin work in January) and the Search Committee (to begin work after the profile is completed). Job descriptions will be available soon, as will be nomination forms. Please see Joanna or Daren if you are interested and we will submit your name. Committee members will be chosen and approved by the Vestry.

A timeline for the transition process
will be sent out by snail mail to all members next week. Please be sure that your address is up to date, especially if you are a new member. We want to be sure that everybody received this first, and subsequent, update on the process of calling your next rector.

Sunday School

Last Sunday we started talking about Advent and getting ready for the Mystery of Christmas. We talked about prophets showing the way to something important, and the Holy Family traveling to Bethlehem.  We thought about our own journey to Christmas.

We look forward to seeing you all again this Sunday for our next story.

Kids Only! - Christmas Gift Making
A big thank you to all the volunteers who helped kids make surprise Christmas gifts to take home for their families.  This event was a lot of fun thanks to Abby, Caitlin, Helene, Jane, JJ, Juliane, Lucas, Miriam, and Tom.  We all had a good time being creative! Here are a few pictures that don't give away too many surprises.  Thanks to the parents for bringing your kids and I hope you all enjoyed your morning off!

"If you pour yourself out for the hungry and satisfy the desire of the afflicted, then shall your light rise in the darkness and your gloom be as the noonday." Isaiah 58:10

Where do you find GOD?
How do you SERVE?
What brings you LIFE?

What do all these questions have in common?
YOU !

We want your voice to be heard.

Prayer
S tir up your power, O Lord, and with great might come among us; and, because we are sorely hindered by our sins, let your bountiful grace and mercy speedily help and deliver us; through Jesus Christ our Lord, to whom, with you and the Holy Spirit, be honor and glory, now and for ever. Amen.

See you at Church!
