Music News
 -  Howard Helvey

Notes on Sunday's offertory choral anthem and communion solo:

Words: Charles Wesley
Music: Howard Helvey
This anthem is based, in essence, on my strophic long-metre-doubled hymn tune, First Community.  It supports the rarely-published 1740 hymn text by Charles Wesley, Author of faith, eternal Word, which speaks eloquently of the work of the Holy Spirit, the changelessness of God, the assurance of eternal life, and faith's component of illumination.  I composed the anthem in 2013 to help celebrate the fortieth anniversary of my long-time friend, Dr. Ronald J. Jenkins, as Minister of Music and Liturgy, First Community Church, Columbus, Ohio.
Click here for a performance of the anthem by the Mormon Tabernacle Choir and Orchestra at Temple Square from their November 15, 2015 broadcast.
