The tradition of the Advent Wreath

During the four Sundays in Advent, the Advent wreath is a prominent part of our services and our preparation for Christmas. The wreath carries great symbolism as we prepare for the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.

The circular nature of the evergreen branches, for example, represent eternity-God as never-ending. On this wreath are five candles: three purple candles, one pink candle, and a large white candle in the center. During Advent, one candle is lit each Sunday.
The four taper candles, as a whole, represent the coming of the light of Christ into the world. Individually, people have seen their symbolism in different ways.

Some will say that the four candles represent, in order, the prophets, Bethlehem, the shepherds, and the angels. Others will say that the four candles represent hope, love, joy, and peace. Often, but not always, the rose candle will symbolize the blessed Virgin Mary.

But the white center candle, the "Christ candle," always represents the life of Christ. Its white color symbolizes the purity of Christ, our sinless, spotless Savior.

Sunday School and Family News

Sunday School

**There is no Sunday School Nov. 27th**

In Sunday School we heard the story of The Exile and Return based on 2 Kings 25, 2 Chronicles 36:13-23, Ezra, and Nehemiah. We talked about God being with us no matter our circumstances. We can depend on God even if we are in an unknown place or experience.

We look forward to seeing you all again Sunday, December 4th, for our next story.

Family News

A big thank you to everyone who joined us at Families Giving Thanks.  We had a great time getting to know each other better.  We also collected a whole box of canned goods to donated to the CAIN ministries! Thank you for your generosity!

Advent Wreath Making
Please join us this Sunday, November 27th for advent wreath making in the parish hall.  We will have supplies available after the 9:30 and 10:30 services to make a wreath for your family.  If you have your wreath form from last year, please bring it back to the church so that we can use it for this year's wreaths.

Kids Only! - Christmas Gift Making
December 3rd, drop your Sunday School aged kids off at the church and they will make and wrap some small crafts for anyone on their Christmas list.  You can go and get your own shopping done from 10-12 and join us for a pizza lunch from
12-1! Please RSVP to Sally so we know how many children to expect. Flyers are available on the stage in the parish hall.

Prayer
A lmighty God, give us grace to cast away the works of darkness, and put on the armor of light, now in the time of this mortal life in which your Son Jesus Christ came to visit us in great humility; that in the last day, when he shall come again in his glorious majesty to judge both the living and the dead, we may rise to the life immortal; through him who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen.

See you at Church!
