ARTIST NEWS
"A Gallery in the Woods"
 by Jack Penland

Some might call it a park, others a gallery, either way the outdoor sculpture display at Matzke Fine Art Gallery and Sculpture Park on Camano Island is an experience. As you walk the 10-acre site, you follow trails and emerge into small groves of art. The trails themselves are lined with artwork nestled among the northwest foliage.

Jack Gunter will exhibit his work in the Juried Art Show at the Anacortes Arts Festival which features 45 artists from 7 states selected by Barbara Shaiman, ex-Director and Curator of the SAM Gallery.

"Opens Saturday, July 30, 6:00 pm at the Port Transit Shed, Anacortes with a free evening of art, wine, appetizers and music."

Exhibition continues Aug 1-4  9am-5pm and Aug 5-7 during festival hours.

Camano Artists Exhibit at BAM

Two Camano Island artists are currently exhibiting pieces in the lobby of the Bellevue Art Museum (BAM), Bellevue, WA, through September.  Aaron Haba is showing two large installation sculptures, Sanctuary and Solace.  Patricia Resseguie is exhibiting a sculptural piece called At Mile Markers 7 and 14.  Both were selected as featured artists by Museum staff.  Patricia's work is exhibited as part of a cooperative partnership with Northwest Designer Craftsmen.  Both artists also are represented by Matzke Fine Art Gallery and Sculpture Park on Camano Island.

"It's remarkable that two artists from one small Island are featured at BAM.  BAM is where lovers of fine art and craft go to see innovative work from artists from all over the world," said Karla Matzke, owner of  Matzke Fine Art Gallery. "It demonstrates once again that Camano Island fosters an exceptional artists' and collectors' community."

NEW MEMBERS
Amy Martin joined CAA last month.

"I paint plein-air, oil on canvas, and strive to convey the experience of feeling the heat and rain and hearing the river current through expressive brushstrokes and sometimes muted, sometimes vivid emotive colors.  I love to put a clean edge on a dusky background and pull color from an underpainting to the foreground.  I like the process of my painting to peek though.   My work strives to bring the natural world into our homes and to inspire us to seek out the beauty in the world all around us."

Jennifer Meadows is another new CAA member.  Educated in painting and sculpture in Australia and the US, she has painted wildlife and nature extensively and exhibited from Washington D.C. to the West Coast.

She also paints nature inspired abstracts.
