CAA glass artist
Dolors Ruscha is our featured artist this month. This busy artist is well known for her glass jewelry and also does glass sculpture and commission work for the home. She has been showing her work locally since 1998 and has been on the Camano Studio Tour since 2003.
Dolors recently took Camano Island along with her glass jewelry to a wholesale show for "Handmade in America" in Las Vegas, right after the studio tour. The show ran from May 30 to June 1st.
Dolors built her booth on the spot
with construction materials from Home Depot that she shipped UPS from Stanwood to the convention center in Las Vegas!
So, was the show a success? She did do very well. Dolors now has 10 new wholesale stores and galleries around the country, including stores in California, Texas, Colorado, and Hawaii.
And, she signed a new contract to participate in the next handmade wholesale show in Philadelphia this coming February.
She is currently refining her wholesale line as well as overcoming the challenges of
shipping a light weight and artistic contemporary booth to her next across-the-country show.
But, she says " My success was not in getting lots of orders in Las Vegas, but it was about stepping into an uncomfortable zone and overcoming the fear of the risk and the unknown ... Success is going for your dream... Success is to try...by trying your fear becomes your courage."
See Dolors' website for more information about her jewelry and to contact her.

Rebecca Tiland is a new member and was elected to the CAA board of directors. She joins two other members on the board who are also not artists on the tour, Kate Riley and Judi Seegert. It takes an amazing amount of effort to put on the studio tour and accomplish the other goals of the Camano Arts Association, and this kind of support from the community is invaluable and appreciated very much. Thank you Rebecca, Kate and Judi!

CAA Presentation
"Objects of Veneration"
by
Chaim Bezalel and Yonnah Ben Levy
6pm, July 1, Camano Community Center
PUBLIC WELCOME
Husband and wife artists Chaim Bezalel and Yonnah Ben Levy
will give a 45 minute presentation at the Camano Community Center at 6:00 pm on July 1. "Objects of Veneration" coincides with Chaim' s exhibit of the same name opening in Seattle on July 19. The exhibit and presentation contains paintings of objects from various collections, including the artists' own, that represent the sources of belief systems from all over the world, throughout human history. Yonnah will be displaying and discussing a cup that was found in Ashkelon, Israel where they spend half the year. It was dated to 1000 BC, made by a Philistine potter. She will show and tell how handling this cup has influenced her after 50 years as a potter and artist. The artists are presently working a new collaboration called "First Corinthians" based on the antiquities, such as Corinthian columns, that they encounter.
