Sculpture Workshop for Stanwood Students
|
An after school wire sculpture workshop was put on in November for Stanwood High School students in Mrs. Merrick's art classes. Seven students attended the workshop given by Kathy Dannerbeck and Helen Saunders. Five of these were seniors that will be applying for our CAA scholarships later in the year. It was great fun working with them and getting to know them through this project. They spent six hours with us after school and then had to finish up on their own.
Mrs. Merrick tried her hand at making a horse.

Kathy Hastings' newest piece, "
Vortex", will be showing at Scott Milo in Anacortes during December. The opening is Dec. 2nd.
"I never would have thought a castle in England would be my next source of inspiration. In June after touring Alnwick Castle (where Harry Potter was filmed) I wandered into the castle gardens. In the water features area I came upon a fountain that swirled as it drained and then refilled to begin its swirling dance again. I was mesmerized."

"There are three things we cry about in life: things that are lost, things that are found, and things that are magnificent." (
Doug Coupland)
Titled,
Oceans of Teardrops, I took this photograph on Skagit Bay looking towards Camano and Whidbey Islands and the Olympic Mountains in the distance. The sun was low and the water started to dance and sparkle, and I anxiously set my settings to save the details in the shadow areas without white out from the glare. No filters, processed in monotone. I had to hold back the tears as I thought about this line from The Little Prince: "It is such a secret place, the land of tears."
